Godin Freeway Classic

    Hi all

Been eyeing this Godin guitar online for awhile as my Squier strat is beginning to wreck me buzz (because it buzzes so much...)

Anyone have any experience with the Freeway? I'm looking for a versatile guitar as I like to mess around with different sounds so having the 2 humbucker 1 single-coil setup seems like a good plan.

Also while I'm at it I was thinking of following the below guide and reduce the buzz from my Squier cause it's buzzing even in the 2 and 4 positions which I think might be a problem with the output jack. The drawback being I haven't soldered before and I know very little about electronics in general, but I like tearing stuff apart and seeing how it works so it's a good excuse as any!

Edit: Another question, when a batch of guitars (same model) leave a factory do they all have the same set-up action-wise? Just curious as I've tried a Freeway Classic recently and it had great low action with no fret buzz etc. This would hardly apply to all Freeway Classics, would it?

Does your amp still buzz when you turn your guitar volume pot all the way off?

Yeah it does, even on clean. That's the main reason why I thought there was something up.

I opened up the strat to have a look the insides...broke one of the tone knobs (don't ask)...took an age trying to screw the pickups back onto the pickguard...had to cut all the strings in the end to do this.

Got a new question, the guitar is at home with no strings on it, will this affect the neck in anyway when I put strings back on? Bearing in mind it's a cheap squier.

    Messing with stuff is great!

Edit: I've seen the Godin Freeway going on Ebay second hand from the UK for bout €250. It's going for bout €600 new online. Not sure bout buying 2nd hand and not getting a chance to play it before I buy. What ye think?

If you 2nd hand from somewhere reputable like Ishibashi you shouldn't have any probs. I have bought plenty of stuff off them and have always been delighted. Ebay is a bit hit and miss TBH. It can be risky.
Regarding the neck IMO it should be OK without strings. The truss rod should in theory will keep the neck stable.

This is the ebay listing here. I've asked a few questions and asked for some more pics seems sound. Says the axe is 2 years old or so.

I've tried it in Music Maker today (nearley wet meself yesterday when I saw they had it). It's going for €500 in there, top value as I haven't seen it new for that online. The action is like a goddamn sexy woman. Low and light with no fret buzz...after giving it a good strum.

Also wanna get new amp, tis solely home playing, I'm thinking Micro cube will suffice (seems to be the default home practice amp). I played the Godin on the new RX version, anybody used this one yet? It's a good deal more expensive, but is there more bang for your buck...?

    Hi fobster,

I did that guitar shielding on all my guitars and it works perfectly. It helped to reduce the hum & buzz quite significantly. It's a great modification, I can highly recommend.

    ;)
