I am trying to employ an accountatnt to do my year end accounts for a small business.
I'm trying to find out online if my shortlist of local pple are qualified accountants.

Is there a list I can look at or search to find if they are qualified or chartered?

    Thanks

... confirms if they are ACCA members. However, a person can be qualified without being a member. A person that has passed all their exams can classify themselves as qualified. A member will have verified relevant experience and be subject to CPD requirements etc.

Thanks, I can't see their name on here, so I assume although qualified they may not have up to date relevant experience as not subject to CPD ongoing education and also probably not regulated?

You can search the ICAI website for chartered accountants here:

    http://www.icai.ie/en/Members/Member-Search1/

The Chartered Accountants Regulatory Board have a register here:

    http://www.carb.ie/registers/

Whereabouts are you based? - people might be able to recommend somebody if you give a location....

However, absence from this website doesn't prove they are qualified either. That's if they are claiming to be connected to ACCA - they could be ICAI or CPA for instance.

    Good luck

how about asking them for a business card.. or just asking them what qualifications they have? you can then check relevant website. If an accountant is cpa or acca or any other you can be sure they'll advertise it by putting on headed paper etc. Also have you tried googling their names?
