Wife gonna be 40 in 2010 and keeps on about wanting a cruise for her 40th birthday with friends(dont mind if its a cruise to South Africa for WC2010:))

Have booked flights and hotels all over the world independantly but before I start looking at cruise ideas, was wondering has anyone done this before and maybe this would be a holiday, one would be best going through a reputable package company! European cruise preferably

Parents booked a 2 week package on a Royal Caribbean liner with e-travel.ie. Never had any issues dealing with them at all and they will be booking another one for next summer with them again.

you can book most cruises direct through the cruise lines websites. i done a mediteranean cruise with royal carribean 2 years ago and booked and paid for it through their site. you put a deposit on it and then you can pay off whatever you like off of it up to 10 weeks before the cruise when the final balance has to be paid. booked flights and hotel seperate and got pretty good deals on them online so it probably worked out cheaper than with a tour operator imo.

Cheers folks for the replies, royal carribean looks the way to go by the looks of it. Mind you if things keep going the way they are in this country, might only be able to afford a cruise out to Tory island and back:D

Irish travel agents can be up to 30% more than online agencies from the us...

    try http://www.vacationstogo.com/ and http://www.bestpricecruises.com

Royal Caribbean is currently scheduled out to april/may 2010, but this far in advance expect changes to any cruise you book....

If you are going straight from the airport to the port make sure you book your flights through the cruise company too as any delay to the flight and you aren't covered if you miss your cruise. If you are planning on a night in the city of departure for your cruise then booking seperatly would be fine.
