Looking for some advise on buying a telphoto lenses. Goin to buy on ebay soon, thralling through the site there seems to be a lot in favour of a Sigma 70-300mm f4-f5.6 APO DG Lens but I've just spotted a CANON EF 55-250mm LENS F/4-5.6 IS TELEPHOTO ZOOM LENS for roughly 180.00 plus shipping.

To fit a Canon 400D, so wat do ye think??

I had the Sigma 70-300 and it was grand. You really need good light for it though as it really struggles if the light isn't the best.
No opinion on the Canon as I have never used it.
It really depends on what you are going to be using it for anyway.

However, if you can afford to splash out a little more then you might as well go for the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 instead as this is what you will end up upgrading to anyway when you realise that the f/5.6 is too slow. If you then find that you need the 300mm then just buy yourself a converter and you'll have the 300mm at f/4. I learnt this to my cost :)

Ideally you will want the Canon f/2.8 version but it's much much more expensive.

Agree with Ballyman here, if you can wait get the Sigma 70-200 f2.8. Got one 2 weeks ago and am delighted with it. I bought the Canon 55-250 IS about 6 months ago and I think this is a very good lens also, its very light and easy to carry around. It cost about the same. I probably should have waited but had nothing else to use and read 2 good reviews. Still in my camera bag.

The Sigma f2.8 is a great introduction to f2.8!! :)
