    hi everyone!
my friends and i are planning our summer hols, and we're completely unsure of where to go! we're thinking maybe vancouver??
we're all about 19years old Irish girls and so looking for somewhere with good night life. Any recommendations as to what area to stay for 3months(june->aug)? we're all poor students so nothing too pricey!

On the other hand anyone have any thoughts on Hawaii??

Any advice would be great help! Thanx!!
    xXx

if it was my choice id say hawaii but im 22 its more expensive to get to and i dont know how lax they are about underage drinking. iv been told its hard to find a job there and cost of living is high

iv heard great things about toronto but hawaii is higher on my to do list than canada

i've never been to Hawaii but i would definitely choose Vancouver over it. It's basically the most laid back place on the planet and the drinking age wouldn't be a problem. The weather will be top notch in the Summer and if you got some time off you could get a cheap internal flight to Toronto which is also fantastic.

I know lots of people that loved Hawaii but they were all surfers and that's pretty much al they did all day so unless you're into that then i'd definitely choose Vancouver

i did a j1 in maui, went surfin once - didnt enjoy it, but had an amazing summer, couldnt recommend it more. so different from heading to a city for a summer. when i was in san fran i felt i could have got the same experience if i went there to work for a year, but in Hawaii i knew there is no way i could ever do anything like that again!

    Which is better...Vancouver or Toronto??
seen as Toronto is closer to NY, Boston, Ditroit...
Which has better nightlife and good for students?

    thanks for all your replys!

Head for canada, might see you there! I think that we're (bunch of 19 year old lads) all going on the canadaian equivelant of a J1....or maybe that is a J1....nobody seems to know! A load of my mates went to Vancoover last year, had an amazing time, no toruble getting part time jobs for those who were looking and no trouble getting decent well priced accomadation.

Also, don't have to be 21 to drink, only have to be 19...canada just have to be differant! and apparantly its the most laid back place in the world....overall verdict...canada is gonna be awesome

Definately Vancouver! Great nightlife, beaches, people are lovely, close to seattle and portland and whistler, very laidback lifestyle, easy to find accom and jobs (craigslist), loads to do and you can easily get away from all those idiots who go to live with 20 other Irish students and get drunk every night. I would love to be going again this Summer

cool, sounds good! think we're gona go with Canada, vancouver!

the only thing is that one of my friends has referred her college course to next year, anyone know can she still get a visa??

i was reading the FAQ on the usit site & it said you have to be a registered full time student so.....does that mean she cant get one??

they've also got an under 35 programme, don't they? pretty sure most 35 year-olds aren't uni students

vancouver rocks, btw. definitely my favorite Canadian city...

I was just about to stick up a thread on Vancouver. But guess this will do.

Is there any particular area of vancouver where the irish all end up living? Like in san diego and santa b they are all in the one area?

I think vancouver would be good cause your so close to san fran , La etc.... Could see them all near the end of trip.

Nice to see a group a girls going there any way ha:D

Well as in same coast and it would be pretty reasonable to assume you could easily drive the coast. You seem to implay its on a different continent LOL:mad:

Went to Vancouver last summer- absolutely unbelievable!!!!

Most of the girls i was staying with stayed in the frats in UBC. Irish lads can't stay there anymore. Only problem is that UBC is 30 minutes from the city centre. Bus service is pretty good though.

A lot of people i went over with only got accomadation after they arrived, including the frat girls.

Kits is a pretty cool place to live in as well. Also YOU HAVE TO GO TO WHISTLER WHILE YOU'RE IN VANCOUVER. By far the best part of the summer for us. They're having the winter olympics in 2010 so its unreal.

no we havent got that far yet! after two weeks of a canada buzz, we're finally doing something about it, a few of us applied for our work visas on usit today so now we can start looking for a place/area to stay but that bit will probably be harder! also, one of the lads said something about the frat houses his mates had used being sold out already but im not too worried about that, im sure theres plenty of accomadation!

and to the person who said vancooooooover is close to LA or San Fran....theres a good two Irelands, minimum, between them!

UBC/UEL. I knew a bunch of who were in Joyce for the summer, and I was in KCC.

If you're not going to be in UBC, I'd recommend somewhere near to a SkyTrain station, so handy!

Jobs are easy enough to come by. As for nightlife... Head to Granville, between Georgia and Nelson. Loadsa stuff there. Including Johnny Fox's Irish Snug.

hey, just wondering about going and working in canada for the summer(june-august) Is the best way to go about it through the USIT programme even though that gives you the visa for a whole year or is there another way to do it?

Im 22 and thinking of going. Guess it depends on your personality but it wouldnt bother me anyway.

And on a different note its 799 miles to san fran to vancouver so in terms of road trip material its nothing imo
