Canon EOS 1000D vs Canon EOS 450D

    Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on these two cameras?

    I'm buying my first digital slr and have been reading favourable reviews of both of these models. It sounds to me like the 1000D has pretty much as good a spec as the 450D but I'm wondering how much real difference two less auto focus points will make.

    Jessops have the 1000D for 355 at the moment and pixmania have the zoom lens I want for 190 which seems like a great deal. The 450D is more likely to be up around the 800 mark for the camera and zoom lens so it's quite a good saving.

    Any thoughts?

    Edited to add, just saw the 450D with a 70-300mm tamrom zoom lens for 585. Does anyone know anything about tamrom lenses? Would they be as good as Canon lenses?

    Thanks for all your expertise..

    I had the 450D and it was a most excellent Camera, I found the 3" LCD screen far better than the 2.5 you get on the 400D/1000D.
    450D has also won great reviews for the images for such an entry level Camera.
    Try and go that extra yard and get the cash for the 450D.

    I was in the same boat. I was all ready to buy me a 1000D until I asked advice on here and was recommended the 450D. So I bought it.
    Me=:D.

    get the 450D. You won't regret it. I have one for a few months now and it's a great machine.:)

    There's only €150 between them. So go for the 450D if you can:

    Another one here who was coming in to start the same thread!

    What are peoples thoughts on the 400d for a beginner? Would I just end up replacing it in 12 months or might it be worth it if the 400d can be picked up cheap on ebay etc?

    was about to post a similar thread here myself. the 450d looks to me. was originally looking at the olympus e420. i would like to get a camera that would be suitable for outdoor shots (surfing shots) with a good lense that i could shoot from distance as will not be entering the waves with the camera and also user friendly. Where is a god place to get cameras? im in dublin every other month. thanks in advance people.

    400d is great for a beginner but given that 450d is the latest and greatest then you should get that. I would love one now to replace my 400d but if I get another camera it would be a 40d or something.

    I went for the 450d too and as a dslr noobie, am very happy. Haven't had a chance to read the manual yet or get off the auto settings, but one of these days...

    here's the dpreview comparison page for 450/1000/400d
