CoD:WW - Am I the only one having problems connecting online?

This game is doing my FUC*ING HEAD IN!!! :mad: :mad: :mad:

Why is it so bloody difficult to play online? Why do they have the game going online and retrieving your account and authorizing it? What's the point in all of this apart from causing problems? Treyarch are bloody amateurs...

Anyway, couldn't create an Online profile yesterday so left it alone. Today I managed to create that stupid profile but I couldn't connect because I didn't have Patch 1.1. So I download and install Patch 1.1 and finaly manage to connect to a server and just before I spawn (S&D) PB kicks me!!! WTF!?!

So I manually update PB and try again but now all I get is "Cannot access online service" or "Error: Server authentication failure". What's going on seriously? Infinity Ward made the game for them. Why did they go and change the way you connect online? IF IT'S NOT BROKEN DON'T FIX IT TREYARCH YOU N00BS!

I played fine awhile ago but I hadnt patched. Doin so at the moment. Hopefully it will solve my "where the eff are the servers problem" lol.

Look towards the Deadlobster and you will see the light...

If its any consolation its not just you ...as of yesterday there was an 83 page thread on callofduty.com about connection difficulties....Combine the problems at their end with the UPC unreliable net service and you have the makings of some seriously high blood pressure !

My you lad is playing it online all day .................. no problems EXCEPT ... I can't get to play it .


As for the PB problem , I got the same at the start but just restarted my pc to make sure the service kicked in . Same on the young lads pc .

Well lads, I managed to play on a couple of servers last night (eventually!). Guys the online game is so disappointing... I mean I don't mind the graphics, they're alright. And the gameply is similar to CoD4 so no hassle there. But the sound is simply ATROCIOUS!!!

But I'm wondering, is it just me? Do you also find the sound to be muffled and imprecise? It's so bad that when there's people walking or running around you it's simply impossible to know where it's coming from. It's just "somewhere nearby". Is it the same for you lot?

No, the sound is dire for everybody.

There are two commands that fix the sound (cant remember em off the top of my head) but of course they are cheat protected :rolleyes:

Good news is that they will be unlocked in promod.

Play CoD4 online for an hour. Then play CoD:WW online for an hour (if you can connect...). Then come back to me.

Oh and by the way lads, you'll only notice the horrid sound if you have proper sound to start with! If you play with two crappy creative speakers of course you won't notice the difference!

Status shows as online and can connect to servers eventually but my rank is not retrieved. Was working fine on Saturday morning, fcked ever since.

Same issues here... managed to connect last night and stayed on for a bit and got to Level 28. managed to connect tonight and back at Level 1 with all factory settings restaured... I've had enough. Game for sale!

What broadband provider are you using?

A few friends are on BT and have no problem connecting while those like me on UPC cannot connect. Is this a configuration issue at UPC? I vaguely remember seeing something along these lines mentioned on the Activision tech support forum. No access in work so I'll try to dig this out when I get home.

Found a couple of posts that may help if you are having sound and connection issues. For what its worth

Ensure that playback is set to 48KHz.

Start>Control Panel>Sound
Right Click on the default playback device (e.g. Speakers) and click properties. From there select the Advanced tab.
To eliminate this error the default playback format must be set at 24 bit 48000Hz (Studio Quality). Simply select this from the dropdown list and apply the settings. Sound should run fine.

There seems to be a widespread issue connecting to the online servers. If you are having problems connecting ensure that your firewall has port 28960 open . In vista, open control panel, security,firewall, allow a program and click add port. Give it a name and enter 28960 in the port number. Do this for both UDP & TCP. Click ok etc.

I as having problems with connecting to a game online. If I refreshed the list and tried to join a game it gave some sort of unauthorised server message. But if I close out to windows open the game again and try joining without refreshing the list there's no problem. Did that 300mb patch I had to download do anything at all?

I do something similar myself and it works most times. I read on a forum somewhere that the Error Message "Server Authentication Failure" can be caused by the game still refreshing the list of available servers. So now I wait for the list to fully update then try connecting. I don't get that Error Message when I do this.

As for the patch, it did sweet f*ck all IMO!

That makes sense and is easier than rebooting the game.

I also found that the game cannot connect to the online service to retrieve my account information in the evening time... The only times I've managed to play online was after 11PM or 12AM...

I prefer CoD4 anyway and that works so it's ok!

I played the Beta quite a bit ( reached level 40 which was the beta level cap, which was not hard to do ) and was having the whole connection problem the whole time. It was not down to the master server as the rest of my clan were able to connect to servers no problem, the only thing I can think of, is that it is a UPC problem.


What I ended up doing to get the game to recognise I was online was to open and close the game about 30 times untill it realised I was online. I have to do the same thing for Trackmania.

CoD4 works flawlessly btw.

Its sound Occlusion that is ****ing everything up. They were trying to make it so that if someone was walking around on the other side of the wall/the floor below you then the sound would be somewhat deadened. I would imagine all competition mods will have the option to turn it off ( bar promod of course, which FORCES you to turn it off, aswell as forces sprint off :rolleyes: ).

O yeah and the game is certainly NOT an improvement on CoD4. The knifing is better, the maps were pretty good ( well the Beta ones anyway ) and the legs blowing off braught a smile to my face when I first saw it. That is about all I can say that is positive about game.

Having said that.

I am a CoD admin on TWL which means i kinda have to get the game, so if any of you want to get ridd of it on the cheap let me know, and I will take it off you .

Nope. Let it do all it's refresh thing but still couldn't connect had to restart.

I found ZoneAlarm was having problems with it. Closed ZA and the game could connect. I still have a firewall on the router anyway.
