The booklets come out in jan, candidates then appy and they've about four or 5 weeks to get their applications in. After this theres a number of stages. If you pass them all and are selected you report for duty in October.

As it stand there is no recruitment for the Defence Forces for 2009 but priority will be given to Apprentices, Cadets and Medical Officers if and when they decide to go ahead. Hope this helps!

yeah I emailed them last week regarding Cadetships & was told bluntly that the Air Corps were definately NOT recruiting this year. Also as soon as a cadetship competition is announced itll be updated on http://www.military.ie/careers/officer/index.htm

It's a balls i had always intended to apply when i was 26 so this year was my only shot and it's not looking good! My boyfriend is in the army so he's asked around too and no one knows if it'll go ahead or not! Fingers crossed!

This may sound stupid... I realise me being deaf in 1 ear rules me out of a military career, however have been talkin to some friends in the army who've said that that rule is or may be reversed, anyone heard anything? Or should that be know anything? :-)

I'm afraid that will never happen sorry.

Perhaps they heard about a change to the eye sight requirement. Specifically whether laser eye surgery is acceptable. This has been under review for a number of years.

Nothing is changed at the moment. As it stands you are not allowed to have laser surgery to correct your vision and serve in the PDF they can see the scarring on the eye and know if you have it done. They are currently reviewing it and may change it to allow personnel to have the surgery but as Tribunous said this has been going on with a few years and like everything else in the army... hurry up and wait.
