Another Home Phone System question

    Hi,
Here is another phone system question, I m getting one geographical voip number to use my first voip phone but I want to get full advantage of this system so I can make cheap phone calls abroad as well as receive calls
In my understanding required hardware for this setup:

    1 SIP Device
1 PBX or PABX or IP-PBX (what is difference I have no clue)
    1 GSM gateway

My SIP Device connected with my dsl and configured, phone line from sip device goes to pbx and one ordinary handset connected to pbx to receive and make calls (when I m in home).
Now when I m not in home I want those all calls forwarded to my mobile using some gsm gateway and same I can ring that gsm gateway to ring anywhere using my voip (some sort of security required here so I only can ring my assigned mobile number).
Now I have my one server at home which can be used if I need to run some monitoring software (for logging calls and for security). Now in these days I m searching for these three required devices but as I said I have no knowledge of phone system and most importantly I m not sure about compatibility issues of these devices and in future I might be sharing this system with my two friends which bring another problem “log their calls” so we can divide bill between us based on calls but my own purpose for this system most is receive phone calls not make, so outgoing call bill would be shared mostly between two people.
Any one have any idea is it even possible?

    MV370_SIP_GSM_App1.jpg

    http://www.discountphonesystems.co.uk/acatalog/IP-GSM-Gateway.html
    and this device

MV-372 SIP VoIP GSM Gateway - Dual SIM - 2 Channel
but i m not expert but i m trying to gather some info for my voip business. and i came across this.

Those MV372's are very unreliable and I wouldn't recommend them.

I've tested one and when it works it works well, but I find it has to be rebooted every day or even couple of hours.

If you don't want a costly phone system I feel that you could achieve most of what you want with an AVM Fritz!Box

Using the 7170 model as an example (three analogue phone ports, one ISDN S0 port) - and up to 10 sip accounts):

Incoming calls to the land line, or a particular Voip account (in this case the accountwith your geographical voip number) can be diverted immediately or after short or long delay (no way to set the actual duration unfortunately) to call another number via either the land line (if not in use) or another sip account. This uses the 'Call Diversion' settings of the Fritz!Box

Using the 'Call through' settings in the Fritz!Box you set it up to recognise up to eight phone numbers. When one of the entered phone numbers calls then you enter a four digit password on your phone and then - either a 0 to tell the Fritz!Box that you want it to make an outgoing call or one of the extension numbers (1,2 or 3 for the 7170) if you want to make a call to one of the phones connected to it. When setting up 'call through' you tell the Fritz!Box whether you want it to make the outgoing call using the landline of a particular sip account (I have used this myself but only for one phone - I cannot say if more than one simultaneous use of this can be made (i.e three users at the same time). As far as I know there is a limit of three simultaneous calls and I would imagine that using either the call diversion or call through features take up 2 for each call (1 incoming, 1 outgoing)

The Fritz!Box has a log which notes the date, time, extension used to make the call, number dialled and duration (hours, minutes but not to the second) of the call. This can be exported to CSV format for further analysis with the likes of Excel. Takes a little work but at no extra cost (unless you need to buy the software to work with the CSV file)

The phones you can connect to each extension can be either standard or a base station to a cordless phone(s).

The new 7270 (have to get my hands on one of these yet) has in an in build Dect base station so you can register up to 6 compatible phones with the Fritz!Box directly but ,again, subject to a max of three simultaneous calls.

The 7170 and 7270 also have ISDN S0 ports so that you can connect an ISDN phone system to them if you want.

    MickyJoe thanks for reply,
At present I don’t have any eircom phone line so all this going to be voip
i m not very good at drawing but here is one attached, and try to explain you in three phase.

    Incoming Calls
    1. my sip device connected to dsl but I think I need device that can accommodate multiple sip accounts, let say blueface number 01xxx, ABC 009xxx, XYZ 076xxxx
    2. then from sip device to PABX or PBX (I think I need some good pabx/pbx to manage this system to route my calls)
    3. if I m in home my ordinary phone ring if some one call me, and If I m away call goes to my mobile through gsm gateway.

    Outgoing Calls,
when I m not at home I want to use my voip services to get through my gsm gateway and then based prefix number I m ringing call get routed through pre defined path, (let say if I ring 01xxx number call goes through blueface account, and if I ring 009xxx then call goes through ABC Voip).

    Call Logging System
Now I want to share this system with my 2 friends to reduce running cost even further. my fried will using same way as myself ringing gsm gateway to use my voip services. But then I need some call logging system for this purpose. And there must be some open source software for this purpose. but first thing is it even possible or I m just dreaming???
Sorry for my English and I m very new to voip, i m paying very high mobile bill now I want to cut that cost.

i have one small server with good storage and i dont use it much so i can install software on it if i have to, or vmware to run virtual instance.

    Hi,

What you’re looking for is 100% possible but like you said you need a PBX & GSM gateway.

For the PBX I'd recommend using Asterisk it will allow you to do all the routing and call logging without any problem.

If you are new to VoIP then I would recommend you download and install Trixbox CE / Elastix or "PBX in a Flash" these are prebuilt ISO's that install Asterisk + GUI's etc...

They are all quite similar so it’s personal preference.

For the GSM gateway - The cheapest are the Portech VoIP GSM Gateways but as mentioned by matrim they are not the most reliable of devices.
The best I've used so far are the 2n GSM Gateways. They work perfectly but are quite expensive.

For IP Phones you can’t go wrong with Linksys, Polycom, Snom or Cisco.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers, Joe

I think the gsm gateway is confusing matters..
If some one rings your home sip number be it geographic or not it can be easily programmed to ring your mobile at the same time.
for this to happen through the gsm gateway someone would have to dial your gsm gateway number...(Sure they may as well ring your mobile as that)
A blueface account with a sip phone or an ata programmed correctly and your sorted..Call logging using Blueface ,,
