Thinking about getting a mac mini through the apple store. Any mac mini owners out there want to give me their thoughts on theirs? Would you recommend one or I should I hold off until they refresh the range with better specs.

    Thanks

They say that Apple are planning to discontinue the Mac Mini range, so I wouldn't be waiting for a refresh if I were you.

Depends what you're going to use it for really. I have a Core Duo 1.6Ghz Mini (so one or two generations behind the current lot) and absolutely love it - it was the system that I used to switch from Windows to Mac OS X full time. That said, it's not my only Mac any longer and I only use it as an HTPC these days, something which it is brilliant at. For other things though, it is the most underpowered of all available Macs right now, can only (officially) be upgraded to 2GB of RAM and is the only one that still uses 802.11g WiFi - so for some things, it's not ideal... Do you want to use it as an HTPC, will it complement another Mac or be your primary system?

On the topic, i think this episode of the MacCast(a mac related podcast) is a dedicated episode on the mac mini and its ability as a home media hub etc. Listening to it right now and they're mentioning items such as resolutions, tv tuners, recording etc etc

IMHO its worth a listen every week, but especially this week on this topic which is popular at the moment.

I had a Mac mini for a while and it was a great performer, and a very silent little worker. If you don't need graphics for games/video then you could be onto a winner.

I replaced my Mac Mini with an iMac because I like the all in one thing.

Yeh it's more just to use as a media hub in the kitchen to look pretty.. I think I'm gonna order one while they're still around!

Personally, for the job at hand, or if price was an issue, I would consider a second-hand mini from adverts.ie. They tend to go for silly money.
