Illness Benefit

    Quick question.

If you have to leave a job because of illness, but don't apply for benefit within seven days, are you too late to apply? I worked full time, then part time when it wasn't possible to work full time, then stopped, but didn't need benefit immediately (and frankly never considered it). But am out for a while now and may be for a longer period than originally thought.

Any help - the email response from the department was singularly unhelpful.

You are supposed to apply immediately but years ago they used to have a section on the form for you to give a reason if your application was late. I don't think that section is there now though.

I would apply anyway if I were you. Enclose a covering letter explaining the delay in your application and maybe a doctors letter confirming??

Definately apply, what have you got to loose??
