I finally got around to restringing my new RG with .10s. The new trem is great, that wheel in the back makes all the difference. I hated adjusting the two screws with earlier designs when changing string guages but this makes the final part, after you've unblocked the trem and locked the nut, much much easier.

The only downside I can see is where you would add additional springs if you needed them but maybe you don't have to? My older RG had to have new springs going from .9 to .10 but not this one.

Anyway, all hail to technical innovations. Weird thing about Ibanez, I only really start to love their guitars after I change strings and make the necessary adjustments. They feel too loose or something with a set of .9s.

Good to hear you like it.

I thought the design looked great on paper when it was announced, but there have been some reservations in the Ibanez community about the manufacturing quality of the units. Not the design, but the literal build quality and fit/finish, its lower than previous (Japanese) trems (the EZ is Chinese made).

I don't own one so I don't have any opinion yet, but good to hear you're happy with it.

Yeah, it hasn't seen too much abuse just yet (soon to change) so I can't really comment on the build quality but it looks solid enough. It's an interesting design for sure, looks way more daunting than a traditional Floyd/Edge yet is simpler to operate and get the correct set-up. Who knows, I'll be sure to update if it explodes under pressure but I'm happy for the time being :)

+1 on the EZ trems!!. Also the ZR trems ( the ball bearing system on the S series ibanezeseses......).

It seems like such a simple idea to have the 2 sets of opposing springs and the zero bar, i'm surprised it wasn't done earlier!!. And the same with the thumbscrew, so much better than the 50-year-old 2-screw-claw system.

I'm not a metal/chugga-chugga guy at all (strats all the way! :D) but i'm sooo gonna get myself an ibanez S series in the not-too-distant future. Maybe swap out the p'ups for some PAFish duncans. Good times :D.
