Another Signal strength question...

    Hi there,

First time posting in the satellite section so pardon me if this is a basic question! I'm on sky digital (have been for years). If I look at my signal strength in the setup, my signal strength is basically 0%, but signal quality is
still pretty good, around 60%. This doesn't cause me a lot of problems, but there are a handful of channels that are messed up as a result. I've a feeling that the dish might be out of line, but I have no idea how I'd go about adjusting it. Is this something I could possibly fix myself or would I need to get a guy out to sort it?

(Just to note: Part of the attenuation of the signal is due to the type of cabling in my house. We laid the cable ourselves while the house was being build, but we were sold the wrong grade of cable, according to sky.)

    Cheers

If you cabled it yourself and used the wrong cable (just basic coax) and you have a breaks in the cable , i.e. from your dish cable goes to distributor/ socket, basically if you dont have uninterrupted cable run to your receiver then i dont think moving dish about will help you much here.
Ideally you would need proper cable and straight run of cable from LNB to your receiver...

I didn't use basic coax, I bought digital terristrial cabling, but apparently that ain't good enough. I don't have a distributor on the line either, but it does go to a socket in the wall, then from the wall to the decoder. I used to get about 10% signal strength, but more recently it seems to have gone down to nothing. Interestingly enough, most channels still work though....

In that case it does sound your dish has moved slightly. you could try fixing this yourself by slightly moving the dish then watch your signal quality , then after 5 - 10 seconds move again until you get the best quality you can get on your setup.

If you have wireless phone, A/V sender or router next to your receiver move them away as they can create interference.

Hmmm, I'll give that a shot alright, and get back to ye on it. Won't be able to do it today anyway, because I'm away from the house. Geez I hope I don't completely knock it off line now!

About the interference, I do have a wireless transmitter for my internet, its a point to point high gain 802.11 dish. Its on a different wall to the satellite, but its more or less pointing directly at it. I'll power that off and see if it helps at all.
