Travel Book - Palin style...

    Hi guys,

I'm a big fan of Micheal Palin's travel books and videos such as Around the World in 80 days and Pole to Pole and just tonight I saw the last episode of Stephen Fry's journey across America which I followed every week on BBC 1.

What I am on the lookout for is a travel book or dvd in a similar vein that concentrates on America because I am looking to do some travel there for a month this summer and some inspiration would be great. I know I could just ask Santa for Stephen Fry's book about his travels in the US but I'd prefer another - even though I enjoyed his programmes I felt they lacked depth, it was all of the US squeezed into 6 weeks with 1 hour episodes once a week.

Is there anyone out there knows of a good one? I have tried google but the search term is a bit broad!!!

You could try The Lost Continent by Bill Bryson

The first time I read that book I cried laughing it was so funny! You can't beat a bit of bill. :)

It's fairly old at this stage though. It was written in the late 80s.

Sounds good guys, seeing as it's old I could pick up a secondhand copy easily enough I'd say.

    Anymore suggestions?

There's a travel writer called Ian Wright, very funny guy. He presents some travel shows called pilot guides, of which there are a few america shows. Recently made a Ian Wright: The Wright Way documentary, where he just travelled in america. It might be of use to you

Does Palin not go across America in the Hemingway series?
