PS CS3 Colour space?

    I feel completely lost.
I am reading few books at the same time and I am a little lost in colour space in Photoshop, in my case CS3. All that started when I realised that I have 255 levels for tonality. 255??? Call me stupid, but who works in 8 bit space?

I am trying to go through all possible literature and servers, but I haven't found why is my PS still telling me that I have only 8 bits of shadows. It just seems more than stupid in age when most of the cameras produces at least 14 bit colour depth information. It decreases all improvement in sensors' dynamic range.

If you are certain, that I am just an idiot, please, prove it :-) I am willing to accept that cruel fact, however only after believable and verifiable explanation (of the technical issue, not my personality).

Something i don't know much about but do you mean 8/16/32bit?
You can change it under image and then mode.
I'm going to read up about it now for more info though. :)

However there should be (must be) global settings of your PS, so you should be able to import the picture in your selected Colour space.

"Click the text under the image--the underlined text that describes the color space, bit depth, size, and resolution of the image. Change your desired parameter(s) in the Workflow Options dialog box, and then click OK. When you save the image (click Done), the edited options will "stick" for other images opened in Camera Raw.

I read this solution on the Adobe PS3 website. ^^

Thank you for that. I just could not believe that the maximum quality is not preset as a default setting.
