Hi. I just got my hand on a new canon 50D (i love it) Anyway, i've been a photographer for 3-4 years now, and i'm really interested in fashion photography. And i wondered what does it take and how do you get into that?

Only messing, just keep an eye out for fashion shows and contact the organisers and shoot some shots for them and put them in a portfolio

Personally, I'm not one for fashion shows.

I've been working with designers to make a few bob and it's built up a fair portfolio for me - I also ended up working with makeup for a while, which again, made me some money and built up my portfolio.

Get asking people tbh. It's one of those industries that relies on people knowing your name and work.

Unrelated but how do you get into Sports photography ?

I've emailed Barça and RCD Espanyol about getting access to their grounds ..
even their B teams to take photos and no joy ... :(

seems like it's something you need to be a member of .. like a press photgraphers org. that charge €1000/year or some ridiculous fee...

Fajitas, could i see your portfolio somehow? Hom many photographs does a portfolio need? I've seen some of your pictures on your website, and i like them. Jean Loup Sieff is a good photographer to look up.

The handiest link is the site you've been to, the Fashion/Editorial section - That section, the portraits section & the events section are all in need of a dire update though, haven't touched it in about 4 months. Have more bits and pieces I printed up recently, have to decide how happy I am with them, and take down some of the muck that's up there.

A portfolio can be anything from 5 to 20 photos, depending on what you're looking for. You could indeed make it longer, but tbh, get the first 10 right, and you're doing well :)

Where are you based? I often take people interested in it out on smaller shoots to assist if you were interested.

I'm based in gorey, county wexford. At the moment i'm doing a fulltime art course here which counts for second year in ncad. But I would love to be an assistant somehow if you maybe need it. I've been a assistant ones for a wedding photographer. Quite fun actually.

Ah ok, there's a good people here that did that course.

If there's anything coming up, and I'm in need, I'll send a PM. Fashion is a bit more laid back than weddings...

I know. Actually i was offered a job in norway (were i'm from) from a friend of my friend who owns what he claims to be the biggest model agency in norway. But I said no, and came over here with my girlfriend. The guy is an a**hole anyway.
