    Hi,
i am heading to the costa de sol next weekend for a couple of days golf. we are staying about a ten minute drive west of puerto banus.

i am looking for a couple of decent courses to play while out there. i have been a couple of times before and played la quinta (nice) monte mayor (picturesque but ridiculously difficult for me as a 13 handicapper) and los arqueiros (total rubbish).

i have heard almenara is a good course?? can anyone confirm this or recommend any other courses.

    thanks in advance

Torrequebrada in Benelmadena was a lovely course the last time I was there. Can only imagine its gotten better since.

Santa Maria looks like quite a short course Callaway92? Or does the length come from it being quite hilly? http://www.santamariagolfclub.com/

Colin, a lot of courses in the area are listed here, some with links to their websites:

    Costa del Sol golf courses

    These look promising -

Almenara Golf...this looks like an excellent course
    Mijas Golf
    Club de Golf Aloha

I'm sure Colin won't mind me giving some feedback as I was one of four on this trip. Colin booked everything (flights, cars, golf) so he is best placed to answer in more depth.

We went in the 2nd/3rd week of November and although it wasn't as cold as Ireland, I still needed 3 layers (polo, sweater, cutoff rain jacket) and a hat to keep the wind & cold out.

After arriving on Friday evening into St Javier airport it took us about 25 minutes to get to our accommodation. We played La Riquelme on Saturday morning and to be honest, for the €50 we paid, I was expecting a little more. The terrain was very flat, and all of the holes were characterless. Looking back I can only remember 2 holes.

Next up on Saturday morning was Roda which we had heard a lot of good reports about, but with us only hitting the hay after a long night's drinking/karaoke/salsa dancing (when in Rome), and the fact that it was raining cats and dogs an hour before our tee-time, we decided to knock that game on the head.

So personally, my disappointment with La Riquelme wouldn't dissuade me from returning to Portugal in the future, but I think I'll spend a little closer to the €100 mark to ensure a good course. All in all we had a great weekend, all organised by our fellow boardsie Colin. ;)
