Seriously I am starting to really warm to the fella. He's personable, approachable, articulate, honest and he hits like a steam train.

Obvious question marks over his power at Heavyweight but fvck me he destroyed Barret tonight. He's also genuinely exciting to watch....not just a big hitter but has good technique and is very fast too, a proper heavyweight imo and I hope he destroys the Klitschko brothers and cleans up the division.

Deep down inside I know thats a bit of a stretch (admittedly Monte Barret is not the sternest of HW tests) but my God I would love it to happen.

yep he has a magnetic personality- something the heavyweight division has been sorely laking of late. the only doubt about him is can he withstand a heavy hitter like Wlad.

He looks to be packing glass alright, I'd say Vitali will beat him easy enough.

I really hope he wins though, I love his style.

Yeah will be interesting all right.

Weird to hear Vitali talking right beside him:D As I said deep down a little voice is saying that one of the Klitches will hit him and knock his head clean across the ring but I hope thats not the case.

The heavyweight division does not need saving.

    It needs leaving alone.

Haye, if anything, is a symptom of the illness that is modern boxing. Not the division, but the entirety of the sport.

He has recruited, as is his right, a Propaganda machine the like of which not seen since Adolf Hitler or Barack Obama were on their respective campaign tours.

He has well known, but not so nearly well regarded journalists hyping him up to such an extent that they brazenly go on tele and tell us that Haye has only been dropped ONCE in his career.

The man has been down 3 times.

Barrett was awful. Terrible. He did come to have a go, but he reached and fell in with more shots than a half-pissed Kevin McBride.

    He had no chin left.

And, in my opinion, he had David down in the 5th.

    heroofcollege, is that you;)

Well thats the first time Ive heard Barack compared to Hitler but whatever:P

I beg to differ on the heavyweight division needing saving, its clearly in ****e at the moment, you have the two Klitschko Bros who are about as exciting as cabbage soup and nobody even close imo. Heavyweights today are slow, dull, unexciting and their are far too many decisions for my liking. Nobody gives a **** anymore, its probably the first time in 100 years that if you asked the average person on the street they couldnt name you one heavyweight fighter.

As for the performance tonight I agree Barrett was an incredibly average opponent but to say Hayes performance was terrible is laughable tbh. Yes Barret looked poor but that was after Haye started landing some big shots that clearly took everything out of Barrett. Its easy to say "well if Haye did this or that against Wlad he would be done for" but he wasnt fighting wlad tonight...he knew he had Barret and so he let his defence slip a bit and started taking more chances with the big shots and in the end he did the job.

Give credit where its due ffs...maybe the illness of modern boxing is not the propaganda machine but the fact a fighter can win by a fifth rounf knockout and have his opponent down five times and people will still take the p1ss and criticise the performance.

I didnt compare Barack to Hitler. I said they had great PR campaigns. I compared their PR campaigns. Read, breathe.

:D I was just messing with ya Oomph
As people on what streets? Every Russian and Ukrainian in New York City can name the Klitschkos. Everyone in a country not called "This is England and We Dont Read Books" can name the fighters. Its called the WORLD Hvy Wt C-Ship, not the American or British Empire Championship.

The point I am trying to make is that the HW champion was always looked upon as something special, something that would make the average person on the street, who may not be a huge fan, take note. It was one of the most prestigous titles in sport. The current division could never muster up that interest. Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, Walcott, Marciano, Patterson, Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis. Everybody knew these men, nobody gives a ****e now. You might say this doesnt matter but I think its an indictment of the current state of the division....as I said slow, dull and unexciting. Even boxing fans are ambivalent about it these days. Personally I feel thats very sad.

    [
Credit? He KOd a man who has failed every test he ever took at HVY WT Championship level, and managed to look amateurish doing it. He beat a man who lost to Cliff Couser in 2 fecking rounds bro!! COME ON!!!

Missing with punches. Leaning in with shots. Clubbing behind the head. Being caught coming in.

What upsets me, at the heart of it all, is that Wlad destroyed this guy 8 years ago, in better fashion, when Barrett was actually a fresh fighter with real prospects, and Hayes people have the temerity to say that Haye did a better job tonight out there.

    Its nonsense.

If he makes those mistakes against either Klitschko he will go home a beaten man.

And no, neither Klitshcko is going to fight in the O2 buy one get one free Arena.

Fair enough. Like I said he wont have it all his way against Vitali or Wlad and I certainly won't be putting any of my hard earned cash on him but lets wait and see what happens. Whatever does happen he impressed me tonight and for the first time in yonks a HW fight had me interested and excited.

Haye is the most exciting guy to enter the HW division in years. Now I am far from a Haye fan especially after he waxed my boy Enzo.

IMO Haye is the #3 HW in the world. Vitali and Wlad are a completely different kettle of fish compare to the other over weight lazy so called HW's.

Look at what Vitali did to Peter after being out of the year for a few years.
There style is also all wrong for Haye, they do not commit and leave themselves open for the "haymakers".

If I was Haye I would go after the younger brother, I could see Vitali jabbing the face of Haye for about 8 rounds and then winning by TKO.

I'd love to see Haye take on 2-3 other HW's first, they would make for real exciting fights.

Barret was a good respectable first opponent in his heavyweight campaign and the fight went well.
Haye should take on a bigger / fresher heavyweight in his next fight before taking on Klitschko.

Then we have a world heavyweight title fight worth watching!

gotta love his honesty, admits he will get knocked down but will get up and give it a crack.
Seems like a decenn skin and has charisma to spare.

sky look to have lost out in picking Khan and Setanta getting Haye.

Also loved the fact they promoted their own show,a boxer with a bit of business sense about him.

I haven't seen the bout yet so I can't comment on Haye's boxing at heavy, but I did hear that he tried to promote the whole affair and he screwed it up. Leave the promotionn to the promoters David, and you stick to the boxing!

I dunno about screwing up, there was a massive crowd there and a tremendous atmosphere.

I think Haye should take on Vladimir as it could well be a case of 'who lands first'. Vlad will be his usual cautious/clever self, so it won't be easy to connect, but if Haye does Vlad's chin is pure china. It really could be a 'don't blink' fight.

poor herofcollege will have a breakdown if Haye manages to beat either of the brothers.:D

Yes, there was a massive crowd but only because the ticket prices were halved and there was a two-one offer because sales were so bad at the start!. He lost a lot of cash on ticket sales!

believe he still sole 9,000 odd tickets before the 2 for 1.Could be wrong but he would still be in profit.
Money from setanta and sales on the night would mean he wouldnt be out too much id say.

Great start to his heavyweight career. One of the few big men worth watching.

ah ya I'd love to see a decent heavyweight champion again, I love Haye's style, proper 'rocky' boxing, who gets knocked first etc etc, great stuff

At the very least, even if Haye didnt have the ammo to win against the Klitskos (wrong spelling I know) at least he should provide us with a heavyweight fight that we will take notice of in the near future. When was the last time we had that! More power to him
