Sounds like a fabulous bird - well done!

If you intend having the bird mounted I would remove the newspaper immediately. Newspaper can destroy the feathers of a bird if the newsprint gets damp and 'runs'. It can destroy the feathers as it is practically impossible to remove. Most birds are washed when being mounted but if newsprint gets on the feathers it will 'run' when washing, making quite a mess.

I would remove the newspaper and place some stiff cardboard above & below the tails (to stop it bending / breaking), with papers clips on sides to keep it together. Then wrap in sealed airtight plastic bag. Be careful that other things placed in the freezer dont bang off it - its very easy to break / damage the head of a frozen bird.

Where are you planning to get him done? There is a guy in Dublin who I would advise keeping a million miles away from. He actually did mine but I would not recommend him under any circumstances.

If the guy in Cavan is the one in Kilnaleck (I think) then he's very good. You'll have no problems there.

Just wondering, roughly, how much does it cost to get a pheasant stuffed? and does it get cheaper then to get smaller birds done.

Fair play. 39.5" is my best so far. Got one hell of a good bird first day this year but it was a runner and the dog managed to catch the bird by the tail and removed it. Maybe next year:):)
