    Hi all,

I have a gas fire in my sitting room , doesn't be lit all the time, but when I do light it , it just goes out after about 15mins , plenty of gas in the bottle and a spare bottle of propane, there is an air vent in the room also.

    Have you had it serviced?

Your gas fire most likely has a Oxygen depletion valve fitted
They are very sensitive as Gary71 stated’ has the fire been serviced at anytime?
Provided you dont interfere’ with the gas piping’ and replace the coals properly; take a picture of the fire’ this will help you replace the coals’ in the right order’ clean and Hoover out the fire’ paying special attention to the underneath of the fire

Did not think there was much to servicing a gas fire , new ignition and a good cleaning with a hoover, also coals replaced in the same place after each time its cleaned(1 every year)

are you saying that the there was a part replaced recently
What make of fire is it
Your right there’s not much involved is cleaning a gas fire depending on the type
There’s not much that can go wrong if as you say the fire cuts out after fifteen minutes then I would think it’s either the thermocouple of the oxygen depletion if there’s one fitted

There is not must to a service but most people don't service fires, which can lead to a build up of lent or some other blockage around the pilot effecting it's performance, look at the pilot if it's playing on the thermocouple probe properly than check to see if the thermocouple is lose at the gas valve, if all OK then as per copper12 replace FSD, Gary.

    Maca,

Sorry for high jacking your thread, but think this would be the best place to ask for assistance.

I bought a provence gas heater a few weeks back, it's a great job. But the over the last few days it's not lighting correctly. At first I thought the cylinder was getting low but once it lights there is no shortage of gas.
The Pilot seems to be venting air or too much gas as if the mixture is too rich and not lighting. It takes ages before it catches correctly. Has anyone seen this before is this a common problem for this type of heater.

There should be an air intake close to the pilot this usually has a filter around it this might be blocked with dust or fluff either hover around this or blow some air true the opening this might help
Don’t take the fire apart if you don’t know what you are doing

Thanks copper12 there is slight improvement but still not the way it should be

    Try cleaning it again
If the flame lifts off the pilot this is usually caused by either to much pressure or the pilot is starved of air and lifts off
It only takes a very small bit of fluff to block the air intake for the pilot

Ok, tried to clean again used the hover, but still the same thing the flame is lifting way off the pilot light. Only way to get it to stay lite is to blow on the pilot until it catches correctly. if its two much pressure how can this be adjusted.

When you look at the pilot follow it down there should be a gap it’s here that the gas and air mix so the pilot will light
If the pilot is lifting off then it’s most likely that the is fluff or something else blocking the air intake that’s what the flame is lifting unless you have made some adjustment or the regulator is faulty
