New Peugeot 308

According to an ad on the radio this morning, can go 2000 km on a single tank (60l) of diesel... Anyone know more about this? Is this real or "lab conditions"? I drive about 7-800 km a week commuting... So this would be great for me...

Looking it up quickly, I saw there was a new hybrid Peugeot 308... Is this what they are talking about? And if so, as far as I know, Hybrid cars really only make the savings on city driving and not long-distance... Is this correct?

That test was done in a diesel hybrid afaik in ideal conditions (i.e. cruising in good weather). I wouldn't expect anything remotely similar in the real world though

I think it's because the 308 is so horribly ugly that air molecules jump away from it in fright, reducing air resistance.

the Lab conditions involve de-tuning the engine to the min, and then upping the gear ratios to the max, so it tips along on a flat road in 7th gear doing 1000 rpm (non-scientific description).
Doesn't apply to the real world, unless you want to kill yourself trying to overtake a bicycle some day.

I'm sure thats what all those new eco diesel are doing; just not as pronounced.

Peugeot are reknowned for having the best diesel engines. Probably wouldn't get the figures listed, but you would get very good fuel efficiency.

Just buy a Volvo S40 1.6d - Same engine as the Peugeot but a far better car... Or a 1.6TDCi Focus - Same engine only rebranded as a ford.
