With all the criticisms of the Irish Runner recently and with the decline in the leevale message board it seems this and the aai site are the only sources of news or any real athletics news.
This got me thinking about setting up my own website that can keep up to date with are athletes and provide news and training info as well as result and that kinda thing.
Before i do it i want to know would there be any interest in this kind of site to make this a viable project and also what kind of things would people like to see on such a site?
(this is only a thought in the pipeline so far not certain yet)

What I'd want to see on Irish athletics website is:
    • Results
    • Videos of races - www.runtrackireland.com
    • Updates from top athletes - are they injured, how is training going
    • Links to good running/coaching/training sites - hard to be both a news site and a coaching site I'd say
    • Stats and then maybe more stats - athletes love stats
    • Build ups to big races, champs eg schools, nationals etc

The template of the excellent www.runireland.com except more of a focus on track and field.

    I'd support the idea.

Another suggestion: clubs notice board - many clubs have their own website but most don't have the technical knowledge to maintain one - a space where they can update on events, training etc would be useful.

Word of warning, don't do it unless you are prepared to maintain it, the last thing irish athletics needs is another out of date website like www.irishrunner.ie

Another site that does a good job in the west is www.athenryac.com

    Hi all,
As you might have guessed from my signature, I'm involved with runireland.com.

We have done our best to have a wide variety of news on the site, but to be honest, the toughest job is actually getting hold of the news sometimes.

    Two suggestions.
    1. If you feel that there is areas missing or poorly developed on runireland.com, let us know.

    2. If you can contribute on any particular area, let us know. Like I said, half the battle is getting the news.

runireland.com is due an overhaul soon [but I never find the time :-( ], so let out your suggestions, and I'll do what I can.

    Alan

Are you interested in track and field news or just road stuff?

well i feel that there is already a good job done of road running through runireland think the focus would be more on track and try and give good account of junior runners and hopefully the elites also.
I have a few people who are willing to share the workload so we will be able to maintain it regularly and who have an insight into many aspects that will be of interest to people. thanks for the info people it really appreciated

Be careful about running some of these sites. Personal experience of athletes is that there are a select few who are selfish, bitter an jealous and have ruined several decent fourms in the past.

However, I would most definitley like an independent site for information. Hope it works out well.

A forum area like on Runners World would be good craic.. for off topic stuff as much as anything else.

have a look at the award winning www.imra.ie

although obviously focused on the off road stuff, the race details, results,
reports, pics, forum etc are really good.

Out of all the running websites i enjoy Thomas Chamneys and Liam Reales the most and im not even a distance person.Project 400 was interesting for a while but hasnt been updated in a while due to training breaks etc, same with runtrackireland! I think more ideas like this within bigger sites would be fantastic, really keeps us in touch with whats going on.A great idea would be a site where all athletes including juveniles can blog about their training etc regardless of who they are!

If you're looking for info from either Cork or Munster, look no further than John Desmond's outstanding running blogs at http://corkrunning.blogspot.com/ and http://munsterrunning.blogspot.com/

John's Cork blog was in the running (pun intended!) for an award last year.

You'll also get plenty of info on the Eagle AC website http://eagleac.net/ , including thousands of Cork race photos and a searchable race results database that contains over 95,000 results from 500 races, including all the Ballycotton 10's so far. Find out who's been spoofin' about their times!
