WTF is 13th salary? We may have it under a different name. What does it do?

No, we have eleventh salary. You also have a choice, like it or lump it!

As i said the most of EU countries having 13th even 14th salary, usually that means you get double salary in December...

Ireland doesn't have a 13th or 14th months pay. Some will have bonuses which may be given nearer christmas but don't count on it.

In Ireland wages are generally discussed as what you earn for the full year before tax - other european countries (Austria, Germany for example) wages are discussed as monthly wages before tax and often with a 13th, 14th and occasionally a 15th 'month'.

They had this in Holland too, with a 13th month paid out in December. Also many people got so-called 'vakantiegeld', or 'holiday money' paid out in May or sometime like that. That was only a half-month though, at least for the company I worked for.

No - but most companies have 1-2 bonuses/year. Nothing guarantee though AFAIK.

I have this. My salary is doubled in December and it's a certainty. My performance bonus is separate. Nice touch for Xmas.

I've never got a 13th month, and I've worked in quite a few places in a few countries. Never did figure out what the criteria was for getting it.

Well, in the countries where it's common place, you don't actually get paid any more than anyone else caomparatively, it's just that whatever your annual salary is, is effectively distributed differently over the year, so you get two months when you get more, at times of the year when your outgoings might also be higher. Makes perfect sense.

At least in Poland and few others in the region its if you work for the State, like police, fire department, tax office, city halls...

Yep, and it means double salary on December. Very handy for them - there's lots of holidays during Dec. ;)

I disagree it makes perfect sense. :)

I'd rather I was paid my salary evenly over 12 months, with me and me alone being responsible for my budgeting!

In the public sector and civil service here there is 10 and 9 month salaries available for those who elect to take "term-time" over the summer months to care for children when the teachers go on holidays. In essence- you either don't get paid for the 9-12 week period or else you stretch your annual salary out to give you an income over those months. Its only available to those with children under the age of 18, or a dependent older person in their care.
