06 Passat TDI- clogged fuel filter?? HELP

Just driving home tonight my passat (2006 TDI) started to cut out at junctions and traffic lights.

It managed to re-start it each time but it took some many many tries.

I made it home (only just) but now it refuses to start at all.

There are no warning lights on the dash and the car only has 52k on the clock.

I know it could be a 101 things, but perhaps there is a common fault that people here have come accross on the B6 TDI.

One thought I had was dirty fuel, does it sound like that to you?
If it is clogged, can I check it myself easily enough?

    Thanks in advance ....

Last time I heard those symptoms the car had run out of diesel. Are you sure there's fuel in it? Also, is it still under warranty?

Now before I give you the bad news you can if you want remove the inlet hose into the fuel filter and see if the diesel pumps freely while you start the car. (use an empty coke bottle and put the hose in it). But it won't.....

Most defintely the fuel delivery pump and yes its a very very common problem which VW won't admit.

Cost 400 euro including fitting. You'll need to have it towed to garage. Part can only be ordered with chassis number. Just had mine replaced in September at around the same milage. Make sure to try and get at least 50% back from the garage. They must submit a grievence proceedure for you on your behalf to MDL. I still haven't got my money back of them either!! Some bull**** about a new software for warranty proceedures that doesn't actually work. A bit like the fuel pump!

Is it the 1.9 or 2.0 TDI model that it is a common problem with?

Well its a problem with 1.9tdi's from 05 to 06 because I know alot of owners that had the same problem. I believe they have upgraded the faulty part in later models.
