    This didn't happen to me but ya often hear of it.
    A guy gets stopped by the gardee for some low-end traffic offence, asked for paperwork and the rest of it and sent on their way. The guy might not even be told what it is he did wrong although i'm not sure about this bit. and a few weeks later a fine arrives in the post.

    whats the reasoning behind this? are the gards joining the Facebook generation of people who avoid confrontation whereever possible? do they go back to the station and then decide whether or not they should send him a fine?

    So you are suggesing that the guard pulls you over and goes;

    2 penalty points and E80 in the post, safe journey.

    and hops back in his patrol car.

    Why do people on here have trouble spelling gardaí? 1 cop is a garda plural of garda is gardaí.

    It would be nice to be told at the time I guess. It's a bit under handed to just send it out in the post a few weeks later.

    On the other hand it shouldn't make a bit of difference to you as you should drive as careful with no points on your license as with 2 points.

    Is this (I'm just asking, don't shout please!) anything to do with Gardai having targets or quotas they have to fufill and at the end of the month they look back through their book and just pick a couple?

    That makes no sense my friend.

    And you will know what your stopped for, you were doing it and the tickets states it. Stop blaming the police because you got caught breaking the law

    There you go.
    Those Traffic Corpse lads will deny it, but the member who gives out the most fines gets a boxof U.S.A. biscuits for Christmas from the Supernintendo.

    read the freaking post i said it never happened to me. i'm talking about when there is no ticket issued at the time. all i want to know is the logic behind not telling someone on the spot what they did wrong and how much its going to cost them.

    Unfortunately, nothing is given to the offender on the roadside. Your friend would have been told what he was stopped for at the time.
    The offence will be outlined on the notice he recieves in the post.

    There's no such thing as ticket targets or quotas for Gardai.

    I'm sure if the OP was looking for sympathy and empathy for his "friend" he would have posted this query on the motors forum;)
