I have an issue that will not be easy to track down but I'll throw it out anyway just in case someone might know.

The problem is, everytime my mail checker is either checking for mail or processing mail, my browser won't display any Webpage. As soon as the mail check is completed my Browser becomes available again.

It's the most annoying issue & I just can't seem to track the cause down.

My OS is a clean install of XP Pro, fully updated:
    Browser is IE7:
Mail Checker is Firetrust's Mailwasher Pro:
    Mail Client is Outlook Express:

    Procedure is as follows:
Mailwasher checks all my mail servers and filters out most of the SPAM, then it opens Outlook Express for the mail to be received.

I have been using this system for 2 years without any issues whatsoever.

Mailwasher Tech Support have been extremely helpful but are at a loss as to what is causing the problem.

Nothing has been changed in Mailwashers program such as updates or upgrades so I'm thinking it is possible the Browser / Outlook Express or even some ShellExt that may be causing the issue.

    Any suggestions at all?

Is it a VPN u are using to check mail or something? Sometimes an active VPN conn can close out other connections. Just a thought. Not familiar with Mailwasher

No it's not VPN but I appreciate your input, thanks.

This has always been working fine but there are two softwae additions to my system that were nor present prior to this but I'm not sure they're relevant.

    Acronis True Image Home 2009

And, Windows Search 4 (Had to install that to fix an known issue with Acronis).

It sounds like the mailwasher is taking all that bandwidth for itself for a short time. Do you run BT or similar? Does that stop as well?
    Have you tried different browsers?
    I must say Im intrigued.

I do use uTorrent occasionally but not recently, so I don't know if it gets temporarily stopped, will keep an eye on that the next time I use it.

I've just installed Chrome & waited for IE7 to lock up during as a mail check.

When IE7 locked up I immediately opened Chrome & it opened my homepage fine???

    Maybe it's an IE7 issue?

Changing my default Browser is not an option or a fix but it does open another avenue to explore in an attempt to get the fix.
