Acting is fine. The movie itself is decent. But there are certainly historical inaccuracies and bias towards the treaty-supporters.

Michael Collins is a terrible, terrible movie although it was enlightening to discover that Julia Roberts was the cause of our civil war. Try The Wind that Shakes The Barley if you are interested in watching a movie about that era.

Yeah it was(even though I got to see some of the filming at the time), wish it would be remade.

Well regardless of what everyone's opinions on the film are, the OP wants to see it. And yes it is in Tesco for a fiver.

I think a Michael Collins/The Wind that Shakes the Barley would be an interesting double feature. Since each film takes a different view of the treaty.

Except that Michael Collins almost suggests that the civil war was fought over a girl. Whereas the Wind That Shakes The Barely shows a myriad of complex reasons behind the war. Showing that people fighting a common enemy can have differing agendas and wishes for their new country.

It would be like reading a Mills and Boon followed by a Booker shortlisted book.

The Wind that shakes the Barley is a great movie. It showed the complexities of the situation in Ireland at the time, and even to a small extent from the British soldiers who were stationed in Ireland after serving in the first world war.

Its the perfect movie if someone wants a quick lesson in what really happened in Ireland during our revolutionary past.
