    Ok Specs are

    15" MacBook Pro, early 2008. OSX 15.5

I recently deleted my Windows partition because I hated it. Since then everytime I try and shut down I get this message

'Caches necessary for booting are being updated. System shutdown will proceed once the caches are up to date'

So I left it...for literally 20 hours. Nothing changed so I had to hold power off to shut it down. Everytime I turn it on it takes about 5 - 10 minutes before I have use of my desktop, even then its sluggish and unresponsive.

I have no idea how to fix this.

Delete the windows partition through bootcamp assistant and then re-install OSX?

Yeah partition deleted. I really don't want to have to reinstall OSX. Will I lose everything?

No, you can do an archive and install, there will be instructions on the disc. But it's always a good idea to backup everything anyway.

Do you have encryption turned on for any of the user accounts? Somtimes that can go south and cause this kind of issue. If it is turned on, turn it off and see if there is an improvement...

    Its like missing a limb.
