    Hi

I'm trying to sort out linking an Eircom email account with a different one. I have set up to send the emails from the different account to eircom (this is set up from the new email, not through the eircom account).

What I want to be able to do next is allow the user to be able to send out emails from the eircom account from either the eircom account or the new one. I have managed this in hotmail and gmail with no problems but cannot get it in Eircom.

I tried to set up a POP account in eircom but it keeps saying the Account Settings have failed even though I am 100% sure all the details I have put in are correct.

    ANy help???

POP protocol is for incoming mail, SMTP is for outgoing.

Eircom Net email uses authentication (username/password) when receiving via POP and is therefore available from any network.

There is no authentication when sending email from Eircom Net using SMTP. Because of this they block access to it from outside the Eircom Net network.

Bottom line: You can receive Eircom Net email from anywhere but you can only send from within their network.

If you're not connected to the internet with Eircom then the outgoing SMTP must be that of your internet providor.
Eg. If your internet connection is with BT then your email settings must be:
Incoming (POP): mail1.eircom.net (or webmail.eircom.net if on their new system)
    Outgoing (SMTP): mail.iol.ie

Ok so I don't fully understand all of that (!) but basically the bottom line is that I can't do what I'm trying to, right??

you can but you have to use the magnet SMTP server. eircom`s one is a pain in the ass no login and they only allow relay from their own IP's
