    Hi.

Just wondering if anyone has been to Alpe D'huez? Is it any good for intermediate to advanced skiers? How does it compare in terms of size and variation to a large ski area like Espace Killy? Also what is the nightlife/non ski activities like?

    Cheers in advance.

was there a few years ago, from what i remember it was a nice place, good fun, but expensive nightlife (standard for france really.)
Mate that was with me fell and broke his arm on his first run down the mountain, so had plenty of time to see the non ski activities. whats there is bars, internet cafe, and a large outdoor swimming pool. and an icerink, with live games regularily.

Cant really comment on the ski too much as it was a few years ago so i was more beginner/intermediate. From what i remember it was very good though.

this resort has extensive skiing with very good facilities for beginners right up to advanced levels, but can get overcrowded on french holidays... its also got a venicular to whip you up to 3000 metres in 10 minutes and skiing access to val thorens (I think) and some other places, cosmetically its not the nicest place in the world as its a purpose built ski village (excuse the spelling mistakes!)

    funicular?

    Yep, funicular.

Is it really that quick though, I always thought of them as being a bit slow to get up the mountains on the few occasions I've come across them.

well that one zaps you up to 3000 metres in what 20 mins including wait (ten min travel time), you would have to take three chair lifts to make that altitude and freeze your nuts off... but I cant say I enjoy the funicular, you always end up beside some fat austrian with a brown head, tash and one piece jump suit, talking far too loud

I timed it and it was 23 mins from the midpoint where you can get on, to the very top.
The view from there though is absolutely unreal, you can see the whole aples.

Ive written a report in the relevant thread if anyone is interested.
