I work a company hell bent on ruling the world (and doing a pretty good job) so we're having one! ;)

No as it's "offensive to non-Christian cultures". Translates as "we're too tight".

cancelled. having an xmas party 'light' though - fingerfood and DJ instead of 4 course menu and the full entertainment package.

Ah well, better than nothing, no need for horrible hotel food, crappy 'comedians' and some random "fancy dress theme" concocted by the bored HR hoard on a mid-pregnancy hormone high.

Ours is going ahead, we have a decent budget for sports & social stuff thankfully.

My last company went from hiring out big venues with free drink all night (just before the dotcom crash) to booking a section of a pub and paying for 2 pints each and some cocktail sausages.

That reminds me of this joke that does the rounds occasionally.

Black-tie party cancelled and replaced by a trip to the pub.

Aye. The Vault is a few weeks. Instead of getting some decent entertainment, they're offering employees prizes to make fools of themselves entertain us.
