Hi guys, it's payday on Friday and its time to splash out on the new MBP. I've played with it and am selling my current MPB for a good healthy price so I'm not actually taking much of a hit on the new one.

...but before I buy, is there anything I need to consider first? Keep in mind I'm switching from my current MBP so I already know most of the Mac-related stuff anyway.

BTW, I'm getting the €1799 model. I can't justify the price of the other one...

Can't see there being a big difference so all I have to say is, I still have the older model and you're a lucky so-and-so....

    • Glossy only
    • DDR3 RAM, so about 2.5x the price of DDR2
    • mini-DisplayPort instead of bog-standard DVI...
    • way different keyboard
    • reportedly, some flaws with the new trackpad. Something about responsiveness? (I'm not really helping, am I?)

That said, it's probably better for temps.

I'm typing this on my new MBP... but that doesn't matter.

    * DDR3 is great. I have some in my home-made PC :)

    * Agree'd. I'll miss the use of my DVI-HDMI connections

    * I like Sony Vaio keyboards... this is the same idea

    * No flaws found thus far in trackpad. I'm using the tap function because I find it noisy tbh... but certainly not unresponsive.

Not that big a deal for everyone out there. Still, Apple should have kept it optional...

DDR2 used to be expensive too - DDR3 will come down in price. So companies should not use newer technologies because they are more costly when introduced?

Kinda inevitable to keep the size down - the mini-DiplayPort takes less than 6 times the space of the DVI port. The real sh***y thing Apple did was not bundle at least one DVI/VGA adapter for free...

Again, this is a personal preference - I love that style of keyboard and like it much more than the one on my previous gen. MBP.

Trackpad on mine works great, the multi-touch functions are pretty neat - and if it's faulty on purchase, well, that's what warranties are for...

Way better. You could easily fry an egg on my MBP, fans go to full speed, temps above 60C quite often. The new MB I got never breaks 40C and I still haven't heard the fans kick in...
