If I burn an audio CD with iTunes is my personal information (or account information or personally identifiable information) still kept in the tags on the files?

You worried someones gonna pick up your account details?

Because iTunes only lets you copy them to CD 5 times or something and they have your details in all the files on your PC etc. I would have assumed they'd do the same with CDs somehow so that if for example I burn one CD and then copy it 100 times and start selling it that they can trace it back to me ??

I used to wonder about that too ... for songs that you buy online, are your details somehow recorded in the ID3 tags ?

You can check the MP3 files for tags ... and you should be able to amend/edit the details.

There are many tools for it ... iTunes is probably your best bet.
The method varies if you are using a Mac or a PC ... but basically the Get Info or right-mouse-click will show you the ID3 tags.

Don't confuse the tags with DRM though. Is that what you are thinking about ?

The tags on the PC when I look at them with Windows or iTunes definitely contain my account info (my email address etc).

I can't find a way I'd check this on a CD though? It does give an option to burn track names etc to CD so I'd assume the audio CD could also store my account details?

As for tags / DRM .. I'm not confusing them but DRM is another issue - I don't think DRM applys to the audio CDs though really does it ?

it depends whether or not you bought the music form the itunes store or actually imported music files from your own collection or where ever...if its your own music files theres no personal info kept in the tags

It's a mix of all really. Some stuff copied from my own CDs, some from MP3s on my PC and some from iTunes.

All songs purchased through iTunes seem to have your email address in the meta info.

Songs purchased through iTunes Plus (the DRM-free ones) can be linked back to a user if they end up on some torrent site.

correct me if I'm wrong, but for burning directly to CD audio format, i.e. you can put the disc CD in a bog standard CD player, there can't be any tag info added, as its not part of the red book standard. only CD-text could be added.

Won't be uploading them to torrents. If I have to pay for them others can too. Focusing more on Audio CDs burnt with iTunes here. but thanks for the input.
