Your reason for joining Boards AC

With an upcoming board meeting. I was wondering why did people choose to sign up for Boards AC? What would you like to get out of it? I think this information and anything else you wish to contribute is very important as it is going to give us an idea of what type of persons are in our club and how we can best focus our goals.

One of my reasons is simply to be part of a club or team and have a bit of friendly competition and I think it's great that our clubhouse is this site as not alot of clubs would meet as often as we do :D

Funny I was just thinking about this today:
I wanted to be part of a team/club but the local clubs train too early in the evening - 6:30, 7:00. There was no way I could make it at that hour so what was the point only meeting team mates at races and never having any other communication with them. Here, I can log on at anytime and catch up with the news.
Its great meeting up with the guys at the races and compare good runs and bad.
The friendly competition among the club members.
    All the free advice here:).
Been able to share training logs but not been told what to do.
The newness:rolleyes: of the idea. Has a running club ever been set up in this way before?
If I post 'I'm running a 5k on sunday' people here know what I'm on about, whereas I get 'sure you could walk that' from my mates:confused:
With all the money we're winning I can soon call myself a professional athlete:p
Finally, its going to be interesting just to see how far we go, maybe one day we'll have a national champion:D.

So I wouldn't feel so much on my own with my running. I'd feel really weird coming into a conventional club though, given that I'm an overweight, slow mid-20s woman, and my training times are all over the place because of college. It's great to be able to get advice here too from so many people with a lot of experience.

I joined up for the flexibility it allows me, while still giving me the necessary guilt trips if I think of missing a training slot!!

I've found that with various family and work commitments, dedicated training times every week is just not possible. Boards AC lets me do my training in my own time, and still keeps me motivated.

And I also like the idea of breaking the mould a bit on the typical "club" structure. Will be interesting to see how the idea's received by other clubs/associations over the next few months.

    A nice t-shirt.
So that when people see me wearing it, and they recognise the shirt, they come up and say hello, and I put a face to the [oft bizzare] screen name.

I'm a happy member of real club, so much of the other stuff doesn't apply to me.

When running isn't your no. 1 pursuit, this set up works perfectly. It's a great place to test out new ideas, give feedback to others ideas.
I also hope to gain new training tips from our more experienced brethren (and female 'brethren') in the future.

And the t-shirts! Can we rob the design that the cyclists have already, I've seen them around town and they are brilliant.

Easy I joined to get a percentage of the prize money – still waiting to get my hands on some,

Flexibility for training as I work crazy hours

At heart I am a nerd and all nerds should stick together - virtual club ideal for that

    Good advice for training

But most importantly a fancy t – shirt where I don’t have to run around the phoenix park to get one
Hoping to get back into some form of training next week very busy with work, giving the aware 10k a go not ecpecting too much as training has been very poor

Not really interested in joining a "real" club as I'm happy enough training on my own as and when I feel like it. This method does give me a bit more motivation to keep up with doing training though through giving myself virtual guilt trip from seeing what other people have been getting up to. I'm really liking the being able to compete as a part of a team as well though.

Oh, and I want a running version of this, i.e. without the skin tight shorts.

To run with runners of a broadly similar standard. Don't have the time, energy (or talent, probably ;)) to be training 4 or 5 times a week with a conventional club.

The BHAA races are a great idea too, as they provide focus, and a tangible measure of how we will be getting on.

    How do I join?
By the way I'm looking to do early morn runs in Dublin around the Foxrock?Stillorgan/Blackrock/UCD area. Anyone up for it?

-Flexibility, I fit running around work, family and fun which means that I can't commit to specific training days / times.

-Community, We are in constant contact for advice, help, encouragement etc. I dont think I would get such accessibility with a real club.

-I enjoy running alone so the virtual club suits.

-I enjoy the healthy competition that Boards AC will bring. Runner of the year etc. and the individual battles that may develop on a race day :D.

-Nice to see a few familiar faces on a race day.

-Social aspect you get with any club.

-Representing a team on a race day, any club can do this so why not our own.

    -A nice kit

    -Motivation

-Seeing how far wwe can take this.

-The look on peoples face when they realise we are "Boards". Remember the photographer on Saturday :D

I thought it was such a unusal and interesting idea when Woddle suggested it that I was interested in joing immediately. The way I train and live doesn't generally suit a conventional club.

Also I have gotton so much help and support off people here over the years that it would be a pleasure to be part of such a club [hope that doesn't sound to cheesy] as well as meeting members at races. Boards gives us much more access to our shared knowledge and experience than a normal club would.

Well to push myself that lttle bit more and to be part of a team. Good to know a few faces in races and target beating people... I've been the last BAC member in each of the races so far but not planning on that happening all the time.

Trying to get back into running after a couple of years out.

    Hi there,
Best of luck getting back, Set yourself some goal some short term and some long term. Don't over do it to start with. I'm back about 10 months now and starting to notice the results.
Your in the right place if your looking for advise.

    Best of luck

I want to join Boards AC because I love the idea that you can be an active, valued member in a club, without having to be the cream of the crop, or the one who's always winning. The fact that new people to running are being encouraged in so honestly, and not just for to get club numbers up is great. Everyone here has a real passion for running, to their own individual levels and each is respected. I guess i like the ethos that Boards AC seems to have formed.

I like the flexibilty of a virtual club also, as theres no committment to run on a particular day, at a certain time or place.

Whats the story with the t-shirts? Did we decide on t-shirts no singlets yeah? Also what are we doing with regards design? Are they going to be standard cotton or will they be running friendly? Sorry this may have all been answered elsewhere but haven't been active on the site the last week......
