If you can make the stretch, Beyern multis are the best wheels available for BMWs.

    typemultichr.jpg

Other than them, you can't beat M-Parallels:

As said already, M-Parallels are hard to beat. It must have a deep dish.

BBS LMs are my favourite, but there are so many nice rims available for the e39.

Another vote for either M-Parallels or BBS LMs.

I wouldn't bother with Alpina rims unless they (and the car are genuine), they've been completely debased by motcheens in E30s with welded diffs burning the Nankang Ditchfinders off their Alpina replicas.

If you're feeling saucy, a set of BBS RCs with a polished lip and a powder coated center. Mmmm sugar coated center...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 192 ✭✭leon8v

Was going to suggest Alpina's as well but they do tend to get overdone a bit alright on E30's.
BBS CH's are also a nice Choice, a friend has them on his E39 M5 and they look very well.
Have a genuine set of Alpina's myself but they are on a genuine Alpina so its all good!!!:D

I wouldn't be mad keen on CH's on an E39 myself, I see them as a bit too blocky for the car. They look brilliant on Mk5 Golf GTIs and A4s however.

    +1

Would love to see the m5 with those wheels, out of curiosity.

BBS LM's look unreal. Replica's can be got here.

thanks guys i was thinking the M-parallels or the Alpinas myself , see the problem is my car is the pre-facelift version in a manky biarritz blue with chrome trim around windows which i hate , so i dont want to go with too sporty looking a wheel , i have had BBS on my last 3 cars , i had the BBS RX-2 and bbs RS-GT on my last 2 E46' and i loved them but i would like a change if anyone has a E39 in that blue colour with alloys can you send me a pic just so i could have a look thanks

Not gone on the 32's mind you, always thought they look like they're off a 3-series! I'm with the M-Paralells all the way!

Those Rondells are sweet! Here's my own with M-Pars. If you are getting M-Pars, get the deeper 265 rears and a set of Eibach lowering springs and you are good to go!

Always loved the M-Par rim. Saw them on a 750iL years ago, loved them and was one of the reasons I changed up from a 3 series!

Cheers! It is :) And its the 1998cc 520 to boot! Runs like a dream, most of the driving I do is at 120kmph on the N7 and its unfussed, plus the insurance is only €400 (and I'm under 30) so its not all bad :pac:

The GF was looking at one recently, the 2.0 not the 2.2, unbelieveably underpowered in comparison to a 523.

Isn't the 525 a 2.5? I've driven the E34 523 (or 525, either or it was 2.5) and it was a quick yoke. Only a short drive it an auto 01 520 petrol. Can't say much about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Yeah, the 523 and the 525 are both 2.5, but the 2.5 engine is newer.

Juan Pablo has put a lot of work into that car, and it looks as good in the flesh as it does in the photos.

Sorry dude, meant she was looking at a 520! :D

The 523 and 525 are both 2.5 but the 525 has an upgraded ECU.

It's a different engine altogether in the 525.

Really yeah? My bad - explain!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

This is the one in the 523 here, and this is the one in the 525. The 523 is the one of the engines with the Nikasil linings which caused some problems with high sulfur petrol.

AC Schnitzer Type III 17" Alloy Wheels

That's my old 1998 520i with an AVS kit. I changed it for a 2001 M-tech 525 recently, which has a better engine but doesn't look nearly as good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,383 ✭✭✭Juan Pablo

Orlando 525, check eBay for angel eyes Angel Eyes. Do bear in mind if you are buying from the continent you'll need to have the lights adjusted for RHD or it'll fail the NCT.

The CSL wheel for the E46 is one of the nicest wheels I've seen, here's a set on an E39. Obv while not designed for the E39, they don't look too bad

If the M-Pars are BMW originals and are the same set used for both the 5 and 7 series (which I believe they are), then the correct rear tyre size is 255. But again this is going on the assumption that E38 & E39 M-Pars are the same.

255 is the width on the rear!

Thats interesting, the originals only 255's? Didn't know that. Mine are obviously replicas as you can see from the pictures, and sit on 265/35ZR18's. Assumed they were the same size as originals, guess i was wrong!

Mine are defo originals (M-Paras) and theres 265/35/18 on the rear!

Hang on - IIRC 18" rims can take 265 whereas 17" take 255. I was thinking you were on 17"!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,183 ✭✭✭Fey!

The M wheels are, IIRC, 265 in 17".

The ACS Type III are 10.5j in the back, which should take a 255, but are much better with a 265 (the 255 isn't a comfortable fit).

I got them several years ago in GSF (10% off if you are a member of the foum in my sig!)
There are several types of angel eyes for the E39 but the Hellas that I have IMO are the best. Don't get the ones with the silver surround - the the ones with the black backing (link in Juan Pablo's post).

Cheers but in fairness that was when it had left the bodyshop after getting the kit put on.
However, it still looks good - the rims are knackered but I haven't time to get them fixed and haven't found another set that I liked.
The car was written (beyond economic repair) off last summer but its back on the road now!

Mine have the deep dish which makes them look much better than the narrower ones used on the 3er.

    That's what I said?

Crossed wires here I think! The BMW OEM size for rear deep dish 18" M-Pars is 255, i'm sure you could probably get 265s on no problem though. :)
