    Hi Guys

First time posting so hope it's in the right place!! Going on a girlie holiday to lanzarote in early December and was wondering if anyone can gice us any tips on good places to eat, drink, see and of course shop! I know it's gonna be pretty quiet over there considering the time of year but would still like to make the most of it!

Any ideas ye have are apprecaited.

    Cheers :):)

Where in Lanzarotte are you going?

Las Palmas is really the only place for shopping, the holiday resorts have the same tat that you will find in any mediterranean resort. Beware particularly of electrical shops.

Hire a car and have a good look around the island, it's safe and easy to get around and petrol is very cheap. Go to see Fire Mountain, Los Hervidores ( Cliffs) and Caeser Manriques house. Mirador del Rio in the north is worth seeing as well.

Rancho Texas might be worth looking at for an afternoon.

Other than that, loads of beach and sangria, how bad can that be ?

Went to Puerto Del Carmen the year before last for Christmas.

I would agree with Black & White beware the electrical shops.

They are quite pushy and abusive. I'd be used to bartering techniques from places like Turkey where they are (were a few years back) quite pushy but fairly laid back in their attitudes, but I found those type of shopkeepers in Lanzarote to be really really abusive with a touch of desperation about them.

Bring some cardi's/warm clothes as you would wear at home in Autumn for the evening time, it can be quite warm in the day but you'll be surprised how cold it gets at night time.

When I was there is was 26 degrees during the day and plummeted to 15 or there abouts at night.

Be mindful of your mates at nightime when walking around, they are resorts, but they are fairly empty resorts at that time of year so walk in numbers. I went with my sister and found in Puerto Del Carmen anyways that the further away towards the old town we got the more "street hassle" we got. It's safe enough, but something to be mindful of all the same. Perhaps I wasn't drunk enough that I noticed!

I found most restaurants quite good for food, your usual resort fare, I found it really cheap, we couldn't spend our money.

Enjoy the fact that everyone is freezing at home while you are having a summers day! Get up early the sun rises a little earlier there I found and you may as well make the most of the break from the winter monotony. Enjoy it.

    Thanks for the replies :)
Sorry should have mentioned as well that we are going to Puerto Del Carmen but will definitley look into renting a car and having a good look around.

    Cheers :o

It's been 6 years since I last went there so my knowledge of the place is limited but Puerto Del Carmen seems to be where it's all at. As Bug said be careful of the shopkeepers they do get quite push and protective of their stuff but it's nowhere near as bad as Corfu

Restaurants are decent enough nowhere near spectacular as I'd thought they'd be but there are a few decent Seafood places in the old town I'd reccomend.

If you like surfing there was a brilliant beach unfortunately can't remember think it was near Arrecife? that had some of the best waves I can remember and it was quite proper with windsurfers. There's also the Timanfaya Volcano park but I personally thought that was overrated

    Enjoy your trip:)

PdC is fine, if you like good food then eat in the Old Town. La Dolce Vitae would be one of my favourites, it overlooks the harbour where the local play bowls. If you want a treat, try El Tomato also in the old town.

Avoid the Lani chain of restaurants.

Which apartments are you staying in ?

We're staying in the Lomo Blanco Apartments, aparently ther right between the Old and New Towns and close to the beach.

If you're going for something to eat; try either Il Tomato or Il Tomasino. Have recommended both to people travelling to Lanzarote recently and each of them agreed that they enjoyed them.
Both of them are right beside the main shopping centre in PdC.
For drinks; try Ruta 66; is down near the beachfront. Its kind of a disco bar.
For live music; try Charlies. I recall its a bit further down from Ruta 66.

Don't know them but most accom. is fine in PdC, as long as you're not up Cardiac Hill.

up to the biozerfa it has bench and zara and that up there so thats your shopping sorted. go to old town for gorgeous food and some nice bars and the new town strip is a good laugh.

rent a car and drive around to get the most . the beaches are lovely, bring some cardi's or jumpers for the evening as it gets a small bit cold, during the day you should be ok,beware of electrical shops they are pushy bit vista (spelling?) is good and not pushy.

    have fun :)iam jealous
