    Hi,

Just joined after long months of lurking! Need to get a good coffee grinder as a gift for someone who uses one of those plunger cafetiere machines(not sure exact name). Thanks

If it is 100% only for French Press then the Bodum Antigua grinder will do the job very well.

For sale for cheap here (€72 with two bags of beans or €60 on its own): http://www.javarepublic.com/iopen24/defaultarticle.php?cArticlePath=45

Don't touch anything made by Krups, or the Gaggia MM.

thanks so much. One other question- can these be used for grinding spices or is that a bad idea.

Bad idea, the spices would tarnish the burr and the taste would come through in the coffee.

Very bad idea. You'll never get the taste of the spices out of the machine.
    These are burr grinders.

For spices you want a blade grinder - cost about €25. Good for spices crap for coffee.
