took up an invite from a friend of mine to go for a hunt around his place in the midlands. the weather wasnt great but hail, rain or snow......
we started out about about half nine a found a fox in a load of cover but hard rain made scenting difficult for the hounds and charlie gave us the slip in no time. we hunted a lot of ground and the hounds didnt find in any cover, with the wind and rain any fox with sense was tucked up somewhere dry and warm.
as we walked the land we passed a massive pile of bog oak and brambles and if there would be a nice place for a fox this was it. as soon as the terrier started sniffing the air around she got excited and soon she was finding her way under and through all the lumps of oak and cover.
right into the middle of the pile under tonnes of oak and peat we could here her at the fox. after a short time she bolted the fox and the hounds ran him to ground and marked a hole about 100 yards up the way in a bank, we entered the bitch again and in no time the large dog fox was accounted for.
grand hunt with hounds and terriers playing their part. my mate was delighted and really enjoyed seeing hounds and terriers work for the first time. we have a regular invite now to head down every few weeks. happy days.
