Album of the Week - VOTING WEEK 1

Ok so i thought this could use a revamp, and hopefully this wont be closed by the mods because i took things into my own hands. Its a good opportunity to find out what everyone here is listening to, and a chance to discover new music.


So heres how this will work. Use the poll in this thread to vote for Album of the Week which will be posted as the Alt/Indie AOTW(and hopefully stickied) next monday. And then post in this thread to discuss your votes, the voting system AND NOMINATE CONTENDORS FOR THE NEXT WEEK. At the moment i have decided on the round number of ten albums to be voted on, as this is the only poll that people didnt conciously vote for(im going to take the last ten suggestions from the existing thread). This number can be raised or lowered as needed, and the number can be discussed in this thread.

RULES:
- Any album can be put to voting no more than twice per year. I'll be keeping an eye on it and i will prune out duplicates as need be

-Each poll shall be closed on sunday evening as late as possible, to allow maximum votes, at which point the new poll shall be opened.

- Thats all i can think of to be honest.

I think we should vote on albums just released, and have a week of voting and the winner becomes album of the week, or something to that degree.

On your list, there is too much choice on who I'd pick. I chose Mogwai, simply because I've been a fan for years and I love the album.

However, whats the point of this poll? To raise awareness about an album/band thats under the radar, then Bloc Party shouldn't be there, or if it's just about choosing a great album, then why don't you put in old albums? Why not the Beatles etc? (I know you took the last ten choices)

Noone is going to remember when an album has been nominated.

I think we should vote each week on the new releases, (and maybe one older one incase it slipped us) and have a thread about the albums worth listening to and a few comments on each. Cause lord knows, sometimes theres two or more quality albums each week.

well the album of the week always existed but it moved rather slowly. And there were many many calls for a revamp so i took it upon myself to do the revamp. If the general consensus is no, then i can simply delete the thread:)

I like the idea. Fair play for taking the initiative.

However I'm not a fan of your choice of albums! Only one I like is The Strokes. The Bloc Party, Keane and TV On The Radio ones are very poor.

^^ Well the only input i ahd on the poll was in fact room on fire. I literally went to the old voting thread and took out the last 10 suggestions. It only seemed fair that their suggestion would get fair time out on the poll. If you like however you can make a suggestion for next weeks poll...

Could do Worst/Most Overrated Album too.

I was gonna say that album of the year should be chosen from previous album of the weeks, but then again, we havent had too many of those lol.

The Album of the Year would be a good idea, but perhaps we should wait maybe 2 weeks or so, because if we have two big voting things starting off at the same time, one will inevitably fail. In two weeks time, this format will hav either taken off,people will be used to it, and it will be ok to bring in the Album of the year, or else, this thread will be long gone, and it will be ok to bring in Album of The Year. Basically i suggest we wait a while:)

+1, about time there was a revamp because whenever an album gets voted in there tends to be a good general discussion and to start this would have always been difficult without picking a few ****e albums would have been near impossible.

As for next week, I nominate Spoon's Ga Ga Ga.

i assume it would have to to be allowed stay in the alt/indie forum. However it would be kinda cool if every genre on here voted for an album of the year within the genre, and then it was put to the vote to decide which album actually gets album of the year overall.....

although by the time sunday comes around, were gonna need at least 6 or so albums to vote on, 10 is the aim(unless anyone has a problem with the number), so keep checking back, it might be that we havent got enough options to vote no, in which case you will be allowed suggest another. But in the meantime. No. You cant suggest another until next week

Considering everyone here has an intersest in music you could make it a public poll and only accept votes of those who nominate someone for next week

im a little bit confused as to what you are saying to be honest.

In a way that would be good, because it would really get the true opinion of alt/indie as it would eliminate randomers passing through and just voting for the hell of it. But at that point we could be down to like 10 votes a week or something. As it stands we have only had 16. I dunno, lets see what other people have in mind aswell..

Also have you or one of the mods locked my posts? I cant edit them anymore so i cant make the poll public, or add in the suggestions that people make for next week....

You can only edit a thread starting post for (I think)3 days.

It's not to stop the randomer issue of coming in and voting at all, it's just that next week, what are you going to do for the poll without suggestions. If you adopted my suggestion it might mean a few less votes but I doubt it reallly because it's like an extra 15 seconds on Boards. It would give you a massive upgrade in terms of suggestions though

well, we have three suggestions already, and if it becomes mandatory for people to include a suggestion with their vote, then it could turn out that there will be more suggestions than poll options, which could make things a little bit more difficult. Also if we end up having 20 options a week then it wouldnt be particulrly representative of the forum as there would be too many options

That's a little optomistic, there are barely 2 so far. Also, very unlikely that people won't nominate the same album

thats true i guess, i'll wait til sunday to see if we do get enough suggestions or whatever, and if it doesnt work, well then the system can be changed for next week. Also it'll give time for people to have input on the way it is done rather than just the two of us
