I have an mr2 basic model no turbo or Tbar. what are they worth I paid 1400 euro for mine 1991 not an import. the vrt people valued it at 4000 and I had to pay 1180 duty. from what i can see there are not many under 3000 euro. I had recent accident and the insurance wrote it off. they put a pre accident value of 1500 euro.

You'll probably not get much more - at the end of the day, it's a 17 year old car and isn't the most sought after model. I've seen a couple of them hovering around the €3/4k mark, but those guys are dreamers.
IMO, the vro screwed you (waits for the onslaught of revenue abuse!) and you should have fought them more for a bigger reduction in vrt.

Try england - I was looking at a few a while back, it's insane what people are asking for them over here compared to what you can buy and vrt them for in engerland.

They go for crazy money at the end of the day it's a 17 year old toyota. i plan to try get one with T bar turbo. they are much cheaper in the uk, but the VRT here is crazy. there are no clubs here or any real back up for parts. what i love about mine is two seats I don't get asked for lifts all the time you will never get asked to drop your aunt home as she would never get out of it. they are so small inside you can reach everything. i have my phone mounted on the dash just in front of me and use the loudspeaker on the phone to talk as it is so close. The bad side they are not compfortable and will frighten the bejesus out of you going round bends in the wet when they start to slide but you get to know them.

eh? It's not an import, but you had to pay VRT ??:confused:

As for 'they're cheaper in England' - I'm sure they are, but unless you're going to live over there, too, kinda irrelevant.........as you say, VRO obviously out for their pound of flesh on these, so it won't be 'cheap' when you land it here.

I agree about the 2-seater thing though - mother-in-law hates having to get a lift of us - everything we have (bar 1), is low to the ground !! :D

I just bought a rev3(1994) turbo mr2 from England, very clean, for 3,200 euro. I took in a 1990 t-bar non-turbo last year and had to pay the same 1000 euro vrt:mad: The car isn't worth half of that now. Though thats probably cause it has no engine and is in a heap of pieces. I wouldn't see anyone pay over 1500 Euro for it.

Buy a turbo, there great, so much power it is actually scary at times.:)

I had to bring my car in from England what i mean by import is I imported it here but in the uk it was not a jap import. cousin of mine just bought same model as mine 91 for 1600 euro but it has crash damage to the front has to get parts from cavan. I settled with insurance company today I get to keep the car plus 1600 euro. that means don't bring one in from england it will cost you too much to duty buy one here . the vrt office over value the car. and insurance company will under value it, we get it up the back side from all sides as the consumer as per usual.
