I'm having problems tuning horbird. I bought myself on thoses cheap boxes from Lildl and ditiched the dish and got myself a bigger one . I can get Astra 1& 2 no problem. My signal intensity is around 70%, an quality is around 14 %. Would a amplifier help at all.

An amp cant put back in what's not there. I'd say that you need to look more closely at the dish/lnb setup & alignment and make sure to use good quality cable. It might be that the Astra sats are stronger/easier to get than HotBird and you need to work harder on perfecting the installation. Also, choose a well-known-to-work-in-Ireland transponder, such as 11766v/27500 (RAI).

Using a 60cm cheapo (Power City kit) dish I can get Hotbird 13E no problem. Never tried Astra though. Like NewDubliner says it sounds to me like an alignment problem. I was caught out for a while by the fact that the dish was an offset dish (i.e. LNB lower than the centre of the dish), so the actual dish elevation needed is lower than various websites etc. will tell you.

It's just a dish alignment problem.
Less east, so dish needs to point up a little more than for 19E
