Dell software problem

Friend of mine has a Dell 1501 or 1500 I think bought it last than a year ago.

There laptop won't boot up always getting start up normal or start up repair when he turns it on.

No matter which one he selects keeps going back to the above.

Rang dell and they said that it will cost him €89 for them to look at it and software is not covered under warranty.

That hardware is only covered under warranty.

I don't think he has a recover disk as he wouldn't be the type of person to create one.

Any ideas what can be done to help him fix it.

    Thanks

try booting in safe mode and trying a system restore once in there from programs / accessories / system tools .

He should have got the disks for the machine , if not give dell a ring they should be able to supply these at a resonable cost .

If he has the cd boot from it assuming its vista and one of the options would be to try a system restore from there if he has the cd's .

The last thing he could do , he will have to call dell to do this but there should be a hidden parition on the hard drive that will restore the system to its out of box condition
the down side to this is that he will loose any of his data

    hope this helps

Surely you need to have set up a system restore version so you can revert back to it? I have had the exact same problem. see my post
