i am considering changing career and becoming a primary school teacher. Is this something that can be studied for through distance learning?

I dont have a degree, i have a couple of certificates, although I have a good job in tech support, i would love a career change but could not afford to go back to college full time as i have a young family.

Has anyone been down a similar road.... or could point me in the right direction?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a degree-and honours Irish, you can apply to Hibernia ,which does much of the course online. Be aware that jobs are scarce and with all the cutbacks getting scarcer

    Hi Dibs,
I've just been accepted onto the Hibernia course to do their PostGrad in Ed course.
Unfortunately, as you don't have a degree, you're not eligible for this course.
This is the only part time course available to get into teaching, so if you really can't afford full time ed, then you'll have to do a distance learning degree with the like of DCU, then make sure you've your honour in LC Irish & only then will you be eligible for Hibernia.
Sorry it's not better news for you.

    Hello Dibs
First, do you personally know any principals of Primary schools? At the present time it is difficult to get jobs, I agree with byhookorbycrook, so if you haven't direct contact with a primary school principal and prospective employment (permanent) I'm afraid you may be wasting your money and time and perhaps you may come to realise this in time. Not a good time to go into primary teaching, if only one person takes note, its worth it.
