    Hey,

I need to have some CD's made for band promotion. I have the music (obviously) and the art work done for the covers. So I'm just wondering if anyone has had this done before and could recomend a company. I'd like to not have to spend a fortune.

    Thanks,

    VV

A bit moer information would be good.
i.e. where are you located and how many CD's do you need?

If it's a small quantity, these could be done by a friend with burner and CD printer

Nah, I'd like them to look really good, I'm going to be selling them at gigs.
i guess I need about 3 or 4 hundred to start

I just googled and came up with a few possibilities, but cheapest was 100cd's for €280+vat = 3.38 per cd

I still say, if you're starting this yourself, get a friend to design and print your inlay covers, print them to a good paper or light card and cut them out
Get the CD's and Cases on-line
Using white-top cd's you can get these printed by anyone with a cd printer, in full colour.
should only cost you <€1.50 per cd

I've seen this very type on sale after gigs, if done right, it's very professional looking.

well a friend of mine has already done up all the art work so I guess that would work.
Excuse my ignorance but what are white top cds? (is it just cd's with a white top:)) and where would I get them?

yes, a white top cd is a printable cd, usually states printable on the pack

Don't get the silver top ones, as this changes the final print, I've always fount the white ones were better.

You can get them most places, local PC store or on-line
Would suggest on-line, but don't forget to factor in the postage
Should be able to get them for approx €12 for qty 100 cds, and the cases for same price approx.

If you want the dimensions of the inlays, just use one of your own cd covers,
and a bit of trial and error.
for the front inlay cover, its best to use one that is twice as long as the front of the case and fold it in half, as it looks better and less chance of it falling from the case (approx 24x11.95cm)

I love to have the time to do all that but I just don't. I had a look at these guys http://www.cd-dvd.ie/PricesforCDDVDReplication.htm
prices don't seem too bad, so I've mailed them and asked them for a quote. Fingers crossed.
If I can get a good quote I'll do it coz it'll just make my life so much easier.
If you or anyone here can recomend a company they've used in the past that'd be great. of if you've used this crowd cd-dvd.ie before let me know if they're good or not.
    Thanks a mill!

Try and get glass mastered CDs if you can as these are much better quality. But you need to get 300 or more.

    Hey,

My band got 500 CD's done here.

    http://www.budgetmedia.ie/

I did the artwork myself in photoshop and sent it to them. They included a Barcode on it too, necessary if you want to sell any in idependent stores or Tower records or any of them. I thought their service was very good, they were helpful about the dimensions and necessary bleed etc for the artwork which I had no idea about beforehand. I can't remember how much it cost but I do know it worked out the same price to get 500 as it was to get 300, so we went with 500.

The print quality was good, they print on the CD too if you like.

    Hope this helps

Get glass mastered CDs if you can!

They are the best. Type - CD glass mastered Ireland into google and check out the different options. Glass mastered is sometimes called replication as apposed to duplication which is copying CD-Rs. I used http://www.mediashack.co.uk but there are loads of companies at it. www.redbarnstudios.co.uk or Maybank studios in scotland are good too. Tho they charge in Sterling which can add a bit when you do the transfer. Mediashack took it in Euros. Trend in Dublin are also worth considerin, used them in the past but they are now a bit pricey. Westland studios do em too I think.

Make sure you get organised tho as it can take around 2 weeks to get your discs back.

and make sure you ask for an all in price as sometimes they add delivery or glass mastering or plate charges etc on to the price!
