Seriously Sweaty Feet!

I have this strange problem where I feet sweat a lot. I have been to my doctor and mentioned it to him but he says there is no reason for it. It’s annoying though, so I wanted to see if anyone here has ever had anything similar, or suggestions on what to do with it.

I remember it used to happen occasionally when I was a teenager, like for a week my feet would sweat a massive amount, like my socks would be wet - but it would go away after a week and I might not get it for years again. These days it is back and a lot more often. Like most people I shower every day and change my socks and shoes daily too, so I doubt its anything like that. Today I came into work and within an hour it feels like my feet are wet, and my socks are damp to touch. I change my socks and shoes, but 30 mins later they are wet again.

My feet do not smell bad at all, its just perspiration.

What can I do about this its driving me nuts and feels horrible!

    Thanks

The material of your socks can have an affect on your feet- I think cotton is absorbant and helps the feet breathe and polyester makes them sweat- (that could be the other way round, worth looking at though).

Failing thast you could put some talcum in your socks or buy a pair of those absorbant insoles- or an alternative treatment, which may sound extreme and I have no perosnal knowledge of, is botox- you know the stuff women get to stop wrinckles? Apparantly its good for stopping parts of you sweating aswell (dont quote me on that though)

You can try some antiperspirant for feet. Scholl makes them you can get in pharmacies like Boots. Wearing breathable shoes will probably help too.

Hi OP I know how you feel, I had similar myself :o, and my feet where always freezing because of it.

Can I recommend odaban, it's good because it comes in a spray,
it's very hard to use a roll-on on your feet, unless your extremely fexible or into yoga :).
And it doesn't sting like some of the others

You can use botox to cure this problem.

Ok its not a permanent fixture as much as botox on the forehead would not be but along with the normal aids this will work.

Apparently wearing runners a lot doesn't help the problem. Someone mentioned talcum powder already and I've heard the same thing.

I noticed this a bit in college, but thats when I was running around in the weather and generally sleeping on the couch with my runners on. Sweating can happen when an area of skin doesnt get enough breathing space. Youd notice the same if you play around with cling film, it will make your hands sweaty fairly quick. So if your shoes, or your socks, are suffocating your feet, that could be your problem.

I've had the same problem. Avoid polyester socks/thermal socks and also avoid footwear that is not breathable: if your'e buying shoes, buy leather, not manmade materials and get breathable trainers. Also see if you can get a powder called Gran's Remedy - it stops your feet sweating and absorbs moisture also eliminating the smell. If all that doesn't work, I'm afraid you're stuck with sandals...:(

And whats wrong with Sandals??? ****ing love the things myself. Socks and Sandals - so long as you dont have to be worried about wet weather - is some of the most comfortable footwear ever. Your toes will never have felt so alive with all the fresh air running through them, I kid you not.

    :)

As soon as I saw this thread I was going to come in and say the same thing.

OP, I have seriously sweaty feet, and I tried for years with all kinds of powders and creams. The sweat isn't the issue really, it's the smell that results from the hot and humid environment that encourage the smell-causing bacteria to grow.

One day I was so annoyed with the smell, so was my OH, who happens to be pfb in the previous post, that I decided to just lash on some Tea Tree Oil that I saw lying around. She had told me that it "was great for almost everything".

So, a few drops on some cotton wool, spread liberally on the feet, between the toes and all, should do away with the smell.

Short of getting your sweat glands removed from your feet, I don't think there's anything can be done about the physical sweating though.

I feel your pain OP. Try and wear more "breathable" shoes! A lesson I've learned is that it's worth investing in good footwear. Wearing runners all the time, like I used to, is not good at all. Scholl have a good range of foot hygiene products, for example powder that you sprinkle in your socks and shoes, there is also a spray that you er, spray onto your feet to cool them down. Hope this helps! :)

I have this problem as well, really bad. And its driving me nuts, i have to bring like 3 pairs of socks out all the time, even when i go to the pub, what a pain. Anyway, I always hear people talk about buying proper footware. But what type of brands make this good footwear and is there any hope of getting something that looks good. They normally look terrible.
    Thanks, Rob.

Used to be the same. Wear "Magnum Elite II 8 Leather & Nylon Sympatex Boots" which is made with breathable Sympatex stuff. I find it great, as I used to get a rash in the summer due to the heat, but with these boots, they're fine, no rash.

I know that you can get Botox injected into the soles of your feet to stop sweating if it's something that you truly want to deal with. It only lasts approx 6 months though.

As for the pain of that.... But if it's something that bothers you badly then it's an option..

Metholated spirits. Go to the chemist get a bottle wash your feet with it and let it dry naturally. You will only have to do this once or twice at most and problem solved.

I know someone who had this done, he gets jabs twice a year, never looked back. Also can be used in the pits for excessive sweatiness.

    Get some Driclor from Boots

its basically a highly concentrated anti-perspirant, but holy crap it works!!

Use it on ur feet for about 10 days, then u only need to use it like 2/3 times a month as a top-up
comes as a little roll-on which should last for ages

I usta have taps in me armpits and back, and this sorted it out

Also, only wear 100% cotton socks, and air your feet as much as possible

BTW, the condition is called Hyperhidrosis

The type of shoe you wear definitely has an effect.

If you are always wearing runners, especially ones that are suede on the outside such as Airwalks, many Nikes, DC's, Vans etc, then this may be your problem.

Them sort of runners don't let in very much air.

Formal types of shoes, and thin materials in general shouldn't cause too much sweating.
