Just in case someone didn't notice, there was a huge Irish tricolour on top of the front entrance this morning. It should put an end to the west-Brit insults from ucd and the like. How often does the College put the tricolour up and why do they do so?

National holidays and when foreign dignitaries visit the college iirc.

Please don't let this start the "let's fly the Irish flag all the time" debate. I've heard it too many times at this stage.

Yeah, and then we'll have all sorts going around speaking Pagan with their Cunnasatawtoos.

They should check for British Passports at Front Arch.

It's actually only a Union Jack when flown on a boat, on land it's a Union Flag.

Actually according to the flag institute:

"From early in its life the Admiralty itself frequently referred to the flag as the Union Jack, whatever its use, and in 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that Their Lordships had decided that either name could be used officially. Such use was given Parliamentary approval in 1908 when it was stated that "the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag"

As long as we're being pedantic;)
