    hi,

i have a decent dell poweredge here with no raid. i have a few disks, i just need a decent hardware raid (i.e. raid5) controller. i've looked for adaptecs, 3ware's etc on dabs.ie, and elara.ie, but of course they have nothing in stock.

can anyone recommend a decent place for a business to purchase components like this on the internet? are there better UK sites?

    thanks,

    dave.

what dell model do you have some of the dell models have whats called a raid key that would enable the emebeded raid in the system bios ?

Also, slightly OT, but the linux software raid is really great and doesn't tie you to a single controller (if you're going to be using it in a linux server). Ebay is also worth considering. You can pick up dell raid cards on there fairly reasonably.

unfortunately, it has nothing like that, being a lowly Poweredge 1600SC

i was going to go the software raid route (even have a sata-compact flash adapter, and a 1GB compact flash for /boot), but the thing is i'd like to run VM's on it, and software raid wouldn't really cut it for that amount of IO, the host cpu would get thrashed, and the performance of the VM's wouldn't be great.

ebay is, i guess, an option, but i'd rather a named shop, as we are a business.
