Tiling from Room to Room

One thing I have learned in the process of building a house is that there are many ways to do things and even more opinions on how....and no one has the same opinion!
I just wondered if anyone else had heard this one, or wanted to offer their opinion - it's too late for me now anyway... We have tiled our kitchen, living area and utility/back toilet with same tile and ran it all the way through doors, etc. My uncle (also building, but different tiler) was told by his tiler that you couldn't run the tiles through a door way as they would crack and you need to put a joint in, just under the door.
I can't see, on a raft foundation, why tiles should crack under a doorway....but am no expert. Any one else heard of this, or have direct experience (i.e. cracked/non cracked tiles?)

No! But consult tile manufacturer for expansion joint positions, if required over large areas / span.

I ran tiles like you, from rear wc, thru utility into kitchen and back to hall.
Looks great (personally hate door saddles - so I don't have them anywhere)
Tiles or timber floors look much better if you continue them thru rooms.

Same here tiles run through hall to kitchen, no joint needed, tiles have been down for five years with no problems. Building a new house and intend to tile the whole house with the same tile.

I work in a lot of newly built houses and I have seen them run from a kitchen through to a conservatory and 9 times out of 10 they seem to crack about 8 - 10 inches from the door of the conservatory. When I asked about it one day a tiler told me the trick was to cut a line near the door so they crack just there & not too run them though

What houses are you in! 9 out 10 houses!! Must be awful poorly built if that is the case!
I have seen plenty of of houses with run throughs and none of them cracked.

if the floor is given a chance to dry out and flexible adhesive used then you should not have an issue.
