What is the best materials to do this?
Should one get a builder, carpenter, specialist?
    Where can you get glass?
What should and should not be in the room itself?
PM me a specialist if you know one

Any advise that is positive advice is good advice, you get me no?

Paul can you get an expert in this field to join this discussion? Would be cool to have an expert on here explaining everything about the process and trials and tribulations?

Sound proofing is very different to acoustically treating a room. VERY different. A completely sound proofed room can cost mega bucks. What's the application you have in mind?

Dav, the building of a 'soundproofed' room is highly specialized especially if it's to perform to a given spec.

It's an area where EVERY detail counts. 1 6inch nail in the wrong place can undo all the other hard work.

A bit beyond the scope of a discussion board in my opinion.

However I will try to get Chris from Munro to make a post.

im not gonna pretend i know all the in outs of this but one very effective way of doing this is tryin to create a "room within a room" using wooden frames, sheets of plasterboard, rockwool as insulation and neoprene pads everywhere possible instead of nails, (as sound will travel very quickly and easily thru the nails), basically by sorta creating separate non touching chambers the sound has to travel thru will be the most effective way of absorbing the sound.(i still remember a lickle bit of wat they told me in college wahoo)

I could not afford a €100,000 job but I still need to build a nice room for recording drums/vocals/guitars in. I know how expensive it all is I am looking for budget advise on the matter. Not exactly home studio job but a step up from that ya know?

    Hi
I have worked on 2 in 32 years (Thats how long I am a carpenter LOL)
and funny enough 1 of my friends only did one 2 months ago in Blancherstown
The main 1 I did was in Trinity College and cost a fortune if you want I will ask my friend what it cost so you have some idea.
The 1 I did was a room within a room and had a floor which was layed on rubber
and as far as I remember had laminate glass.

few things i did to my home set-up. not fully soundproofed but enough to not annoy the neighbours.

    1. dropped ceiling 5 inches, stuffed with high density rockwool and re-hung on rubber hangers.

    2. put up fully fire resistant stud walls (these arent fully soundproof but the extra thickness is pretty good.

    3. got seals for window and door frame

    4. sorted the room out with acoustic panels and basstraps

in total it was about 3000 for the materials and a little labour. although saved a fair bit of cash by getting my own hands dirty.
