Anyone know if there's an on-line taxi fare guide / calculator?

I thought I saw one mentioned on here recently but search isn't helping...

Nice one. Has it been updated for the price increases?

Is it possible to ask it to not take the M50? :P

You can the direct the driver to take any route you wish. Same for using motorways, it's your call in the end.

Just tried that worldtaximeter website : it's as usefull as tits on a bull. I used the example of Dublin Airport to Monkstown Avenue with the current time ( premium rate ) and it gave me a fare of €69.30 which is complete nonsense.

I quit driving a taxi before the marginal increase a week and a half ago but the fare for that journey is nowhere near that figure. You can assume to pay easily €20 less than that including use of the port tunnel and eastlink at off peak rates.

    Pretty spot on imo.

I tried it for O'Connell St to Crumlin - I do this trip regular in a taxi to the Childrens hospital.
I found it to be very accurate.

The difference in the prices will vary because of "time spent in traffic".
An approx time (for traffic) is given in the estimate - its is on the conservative side admittedly.

It is only a rough guide but still a good one I think also.

Short journeys aren't too bad. Once you start going a bit of distance in proximity of the M50 it has a tendency to prefer the motorway which far from an efficient route in a fair few cases.

Could you remind them that Ireland does not consist of Dublin and Dublin alone?

Could you be reminded that it only lists major areas, even in Dublin.

    Hi all,

There hasn't been any activity on this thread in a while but I just felt like I had something relevant to share. I got a brand new iPhone few weeks ago. Still can't get over how much more than a phone it is.

So the other night I got this app called Irish Taxi for it. It's pretty cool and I can totally see how it will come in handy! Free as well! It gives you local taxi numbers wherever you are (or at least is says so - haven't tried anywhere else but Dublin). I can see it saving some $$$ by not having to call 11811 all the time (I know I should just save few numbers to my phone but with this now, maybe I won't have to?).

OK, but the best thing about it is the taxi calculator (called 'fare estimator' here)! Its just like www.worldtaximeter.com/ but you can use it wherever you are rather than on a pc at home. Apart from a small hick-up every now and again it works pretty well most of the times! It even breaks down the fare and explains what are the separate charges it consists of. I constantly get into arguments with taxi drivers over fares (which are never the same going home from town) so I'm looking forward to give this a go next time around. There's also this whole info section where you can check what your rights are and other handy stuff. I just learned this morning that there is no such thing as the good old 'AIRPORT CHARGE'! How many times have I heard that explanation before! Honestly, next time I see a driver fiddling around with those buttons on the meter - I'll be asking for a receipt and won't pay until I'm satisfied there are no 'Airport Charges' or anything like that added.

Anyway, I just thought I'll share it here, as it might be interesting for anyone who has an iPhone!
